ABC is advertising shows having their "Winter Finale"
We all know that winter has not started yet and the Winter Finale would not air until March.
Bad advertising.
This ranks up there with putting Christmas decorations up in August.

Well, meteorological winter started December 1, so maybe they do understand weather after all. :grin:
Plus, it's not the finale of "winter", it's the finale of "Castle" taking place during winter...the winter finale of Castle. ;)

Actually I would say the opposite :D They DO understand the weather... winter starting on 1st Dec is actually much more accurate in terms of the weather patterns. There are basically two reasons it is used in meteorology - first, it better corresponds to the actual weather. It is winter now already and not really fall and likewise in March it is more like spring already. Second, it allows consistency, the actual winter solstice is not every year on 21st Dec and the exact times also differ (http://www.meteotemplate.com/template/pages/astronomy/equisol.php). So then you would not be able to make exact comparisons between winters and also it would be very complicated to do any stats, which are usually calculated as monthly averages etc.

Well of course it is not always the case :D But you have to look at long-term averages
