Data logger: Green Dot Question
« on: February 07, 2015, 12:21:00 PM »
Hello.

I just bought a Vantage Vue yesterday and want to buy a USB for Mac Data logger.

How can I make the Differentiate a Green Dot logger from an old one. Do not want to spend 200$ for nothing?

Also, since the usb cable is very short, can we use a extension USB cable to connect to the Imac?

Thanks for your help.

For about $115 CAD get Bellfryboy's logger - no need (AFAIK) to worry about firmware versions.
Need low cost IP monitoring?  http://wirelesstag.net/wta.aspx?link=NisJxz6FhUa4V67/cwCRWA or PM me for 50% off Wirelesstags!!

Hi Bushman,

Thanks for the info.

Will I still need a data logger to physically connect my console to Bellfryboy's logger and the  Imac?

If not your suggestion is very interesting. Do we have a canadian seller for that product?

Thanks

You asked a clear question in English, and got no clear answer.

The answer is that you must make it clear to your supplier (seller) that you want a logger that is compatible with the newer model of console.  If you are purchasing from a reputable seller, that should be all you need to do.  But then, when you get the logger and plug it into the console, if it is not compatible, the console will produce a message that says that.

If you say how you are going to purchase the logger (or from what supplier), perhaps there is a more helpful answer.

Yes.

Thanks Delacoy.

I bought the Vantage Vue from a dealer in the eastern part of Canada and they do not carry the logger for the Mac.

So I will have to buy it from Amazon but I cannot tell if they sell the new model or the old one that is why I was asking if someone knew the difference between the two. No way of asking them either when you know how things work with that big supplier.

Thanks again

Send a PM to 'belfryboy', he is a member here and ask him directly if his logger works with Macs. He will give you a straight answer.
3 Davis set-ups...which one ya wanna talk about? And I got ALL my manuals....

The hardware of the "logger for the Mac" is exactly the same as the hardware of the logger for Windows PCs.

The dealer should know that.  The difference in the "kit" is the WeatherLink software for the Mac, which you don't need and don't want (and probably isn't compatible with your Mac OS version).

That is very interesting to know Dalecoy.

I thought that their software would also help in configuring things in the console which you could not do if you did not have it.

If it does not do any special things, then you solution is quite good for me.

Thanks my Mac should like it.

Yes, it would - and your dealer should be able to get that software (at no additional charge), and then it may work with your Mac OS.

But there are other ways of configuring things in the console (by pressing buttons, and/or with other software for the Mac).

Your dealer should know all of that information, of course.  Or if the dealer does not know, then the dealer can contact Davis to find out.

We have an embryonic new knowledgebase for the the Davis stations (to supersede the previous wikispaces one, which got too expensive to maintain in terms of the webspace cost). There are only a very few topics posted there as yet, but one of them covers the green dot loggers. See:

Sorry, but I don't usually have time to help with individual issues by email unless you are a Prodata customer. Please post your issue in the relevant forum section here & I will comment there if I have anything useful to add.
