Yearly rainfall total...
« on: June 03, 2009, 05:53:17 AM »
Hi guys...

I run VWS internet edition at two stations, on two PC's and both as of June 1st started not calculating yearly rainfall.  Prior to June 1st it was fine.

I updated to 14.00 build p86 -- still not working.

Tried to update rainfall total in the settings/rainfall menu, but I am told it exceeds total rainfall.

Here's what my yearly noaa report shows, highlighting it rather well:

You'll note each month has a rainfall total, but annual is 0.00.

Seems to be the only variable affected, so I figured i'd ask here, especially since it's been running beta code as long as I can remember.

My appologies if this was addressed by another post, I did a cursory look for it, and found some discussions about rainfall total, but seemed to be focused on another station type, both of these are Davis Vantage Pro's (original version).

Thanks in advance!!!

Ok, I feel stupid now that I posted this.  It just dawned on me this is pulled from the STATION itself.

So I just looked, and sure enough, the console has yearly rainfall at 0.00.

I wonder how that got reset.

Welp I just did the math on what the months add up, and entered it in the station setup box, and wha-la, it all came back.

Sorry for the post, it is 5:57am, and I am up from yesterday (yeah, I know lame excuse).

Still curious how it got reset at two locations separated by 4 miles, but hey, the fix was easy :).

(consoles are running latest davis firmware)

Davis consoles can be set to "rain years" other than January-December. Here in California, our rain year runs July-June. At midnight June 30/July 1 my consoles reset annual precip to 0.

It sounds like perhaps your are set to a June-May rain year.

Ah ha!

That would also explain a great deal.

I think at one point I had that set right, but when I updated firmware on the consoles for the new DST times, i'm thinking that setting was lost as even Jan 1st, I had to manually zero the annual total this year.

Thanks for the reply, i'll make the corrections tonight when I get home.

Again, thanks!!!

Actually, I do believe that is the default that the console is set to when delivered. At least mine was many moons ago.
