meteobridge w/ Davis Pro2 troubles **solved**
« on: February 04, 2018, 11:38:08 AM »
I'm helping some friends get a weather station up and running - it's essentially the same configuration as mine:

  • Davis Vantage Pro2 (theirs has UV and Solar; mine doesn't)
  • Ambient Weatherbridge (TP-Link box) running 3.5 build 11925 (Feb 3 build)
  • Davis Weatherlink data logger plugged into back of Pro2 Console
  • Weatherlink cabled to Belkin F4U021BT USB hub which in turn plugs into USB port on Weatherbridge
  • Cabled Ethernet connection to home router

The weather station and console themselves have been working fine for a while. The Weatherbridge also boots properly and has been configured for the Davis weather station. The problem is getting the two to talk to each other. I had zero problems with this back a few years ago when I did it and everything I've tried (resets / reboots, re-seating the data logger) hasn't moved the ball forward.

After my MB boots, the log look like the first image below. On theirs, the second. (hopefully the pics come through)

Any pointers on what I could try?

One thing to note: The USB hub was hooked up to power for a while (the extra USB plug on the cable the Weatherbridge uses for power) while the data logger was also attached to the hub. I don't know if that could fry anything, but it might be an important diagnostic point to make.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Can you read the datalogger with a direct connection like Weatherlink?

Good suggestion. Never bothered with that myself since it just worked w/ Meteobridge, but I've passed on the advice. Will report back.

Thanks!

Did they used Weatherlink BEFORE they switched to Meteobridge?
If they used Weatherlink before, they probably, as it sounds as the thing to do,  set the USB logger to Weatherlink's USB mode, also known as Express mode. After doing that, only Weatherlink can read the logger.
They have to switch it back to serial mode
Just do a Google search with "weatherlink USB express mode" and you will find dozens of topics, multiple on this forum.

Looks to me like the USB logger has hung-up. This can happen if you plug the Davis logger into a running console. You can fix it by powering down the console (power supply and batteries) and then powering it up again. Then the USB logger should work again fine.

No. Never even loaded the software b/c they knew they were using the meteobridge.

Is it possible it could have gotten into that mode w/o using Weatherlink?

Indeed, docbee had the correct solution. Up and running. Thank you!

Lesson for me: If I'm going to help someone, be present when they set up the hardware.
