Hi!

With the firmware update v1.2.9 for the WS3800, a new WS85 sensor was mentioned for the first time. When asked, Ecowitt stated that it is a new 3-1 sensor.

The WS85 is apparently an extended WS80 (or a reduced WS90) - at least this is what the firmware for the WS3800 suggests.
As with the WS90, there is a version number: ws85_ver. This means that the firmware can probably be updated.
The key for the battery status is called wh85batt - although it is still unclear how this sensor reports back the status (volt value, 0/1 or level) and what type and number of batteries are required.
A few strings in the firmware (such as ws85.WaveRain) suggest an unusual way of measuring rain. However, this may have no significance.
There are hints for measuring the outside temperature (ws85.Temp) - but not for measuring the humidity.
Strange.
Especially as the sensor is described by Ecowitt as a 3-1 sensor:

1 Wind speed
2 Wind direction
3 Precipitation

For comparison: The WS90 is described as a 7-in-1 sensor. The 7 measured variables are:

1 Wind speed
2 Wind direction
3 Precipitation
4 Outdoor temperature
5 Air humidity
6 Solar radiation
7 UV

The WS85 therefore (apparently) lacks temperature, humidity and solar radiation/UV.
It would be possible to combine the WS85 with a WH32(-EP).
But then a light sensor would still be missing, which unfortunately is not yet available as a separate sensor.
Should this be seen as an indication that a separate light sensor will soon be available?

Regards, Oliver

Hi!

There's a new firmware version V1.2.9 available for the WS3800.
Use the current WSView Plus app or the web interface (WebUI) of the WS3800 ("Device Setting") to update.

Changelog for V1.2.9:
  • Added support for WS85 wind and rain sensor
  • Added support for automatic backlighting of web page control
  • Only battery power no longer turns on wifi function to reduce power consumption

Wow!
A new sensor WS85?!

The WS85 is our latest 3-in-1 weather station to be announced. It features wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, and includes a solar panel.

the rain portion is still under enquiry - a WH32(-EP) is needed like with the WS68

if Ecowitt are consistent with their model naming, it would be a WS3802 or WS3803 station.
The WS85 is supposed to be OTA firmware upgrade enabled.

Hi! Have You tried to check the AWEKAS account? Under the "Weather station" settings, you can see which data Aweka receives from your station. It is in any case a possible solution.
Best regards Jan

I can confirm the presence of the backlight control switch

WiFi ymbol disappears when unplugged

all the multi sensors which were not connected before and disabled were put in learning mode again

console display was reset to default display (Abs pressure, Wind, rain mm/h) with my WS3910

Fine on my end.

Lost connection of Weather Link live and will not reconnect.  I tried removing batteries and reinstalling batteries and power and it still does not connect.   One change today is I installed new windows and doors today and not long after that it stopped working.

Got it!
Was using the wrong tags in the Current row. Was using tags from Current section of testtags i.e. %temp% when I should have been using tags from the trends section of testtags like %temp0minuteago%.

Still got to change a few tags in the section below that but I now see a light shining brightly at the end of the tunnel of this recovery..

We can relax now :)

FYI, the outage was while the API was being served from College Park (the DC that had the major chiller outage) and is now being served from Boulder DC.  Hmmm...

The last NCEP status from an hour ago says still down but I'm now successfully pulling fresh data.
