Title: WU sticker displays Too many significant digits!
Post by: longmire on February 10, 2009, 09:27:06 PM
The PWS sticker from WU for my station dispays windspeed to the nerest one-tenth mph. Since my station only reports it to the nearest full mph this is "FALSE PRECISION" - and is not scientifically the correct way to display the data.

I have submitted a ticket to WU Support about this issue, but thought I'd post here as well to see whether anyone might have a suggestion as to how I can correct this. I believe I have VWS set to display 0 decimal places on windspeed. I am running v 12.08p11.

Is the wind speed displayed in the PWS sticker, Weather Underground's reporting of the windspeedmph - [mph instantaneous wind speed] or the windspdmph_avg2m  - [mph 2 minute average wind speed mph], which are the  uploaded speeds in their upload protocol?  I suppose if you are doing rapid fire updates, it would probably be the instantaneous wind speed, but what if your software is reporting in Normal mode?
