Wind blowing 5-in-1
« on: February 12, 2014, 11:04:54 AM »
My Acurite 5-in-1 unit moves in the wind, I have reseated the unit but the wind still forces it to turn every couple of days. I am tired of walking out in the snow to reseat, anyone else having the same issue? Any tips? I don't want to use any type of glue.  #-o

I assume you mean that it is turning on the upright pipe.  If so. Try wrapping the pipe with a couple rounds of duct tape and then retighting it.

Good Idea, I was just mad and venting. I don't know why it was not made with some sort of lock down.

Did Acu-Rite stop shipping 5-in-1 sensors with "the 2 shorter screws included in the hardware bag" that clamp the sensor to the mounting base?????

I don't recall seeing any additional screws nor do I recall a place to put them. I am going to try the duct tape method recommended in previous post, but haven't had time to repair yet.

Just purchased mine a few weeks ago and it came with 2 small screws to screw into it.

I never received any small screws, so I used duct tape and it is working for now. I pulled up a video and watched installation of the 5-in-1 and it showed some type of screw. I sent Acurite.com support an email requesting they either let me know the size and type of screw or to mail me one.

There is nothing special about those screws   you can use any #6 or #8 screw 3/4 or 1 in ought to work. I threw them in my junk box and used u bolts.

I will look at it tomorrow afternoon, I should have a screw that will work.

They were just self-tapping wood screws, IIRC.....

I ended up using a galvanized pipe with mine, but I drilled 2 holes in the pipe where the screws need to go.   For better stabilization, you could also drill some small pilot holes for the screws.   That should really keep it from spinning.
