Moderate Risk from SPC Today
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:56:30 AM »
I think this is the first moderate risk of 2013 for severe weather. OKC just got hit with some hail, and it isn't supposed to get bad until tonight. Looks like John in Arkansas is under the gun for today.

I'll be trying to hang onto my hat, but it might be tough tonight.  Well into the current Moderate zone.

I've gotten to the point where i really don't like severe storms.  I don't understand the whole 'chaser' mentality for those not involved in genuine research.  There's something sick about that kind of thrill seeking.

I am an "up and comer", that is, I am looking at storm data to try and learn how they form and work. I have printed off about a dozen different maps, and draw contours, boundaries, etc. trying to figure out what needs to happen for severe weather outbreaks to occur. As for actual storm chasing, I have not done any, nor do I plan on it for right now. I am just simply trying to learn how things work.

It's the fools out there for little purpose other than to rack up Youtube hits that annoy me.

The 'chasers' and storm tourists and sightseers and gawkers that really have no legitimate reason to be out there.
