Data Logger USB
« on: April 02, 2017, 05:47:59 PM »
Hi all

As per my previous post, still can't get the PC to connect to my Davis VP 2 console, using a second hand logger.

I'm using the New station option but won't let me use the USB option following on from the 3rd party software warming.

The manufacture code begins with C which is before green dot if I'm right.

Please can you help, if you can experienced this

.... using a second hand logger.

So, this is a 2nd hand logger that has never worked on this PC.

Perhaps if you gave us a more complete description, step-by-step, of exactly what you are seeing, someone might have a better clue.  And even things like what operating system is on the PC might be interesting.  And whether that PC has ever had a Davis USB logger/VP2 connected to it.

Or - what happens if you continue the setup, using "serial"?

Yes, the lap top regularly talks to my other VP2 logger.

Step by step, I connect the second hand logger to the Davis VP2 console, connect to lap top via USB open weatherlink,  select new station, using the step by step guide, it gets to comm ports option, and when I select USB, get the 3rd party software warning, select OK, saying im using USB and not 3rd party, and it defaults back to serial, and wont let me use USB. option.
Dalecoy, if you need any more info please ask.
Thank you in advance of any assiatance

And then hit Autodetect button of course.

Yes, auto detect, but wont do it on USb, when I tick the dot in USB, get the 3rd party warning, click ok, then reverts back to serial, and if I click usb again, then same again, 3rd party warning, then back to serial

Don't worry about it, just use the serial connection if that's working OK. There's essentially zero benefit from using the USB option.

Hi John, thankyou for your reply, the worrying thing is, when the logger is connected, and on serial mode, it doesn't find it using auto search,

Details are sometimes important.

1.  Is the other logger the same model?  (USB) And is the connection to the other logger identified as USB in setup?

2.  When you disconnect the other logger and connect this second-hand logger, do you remove all power (AC and battery) before the disconnect/connect?

2A.  Just checking - do you also disconnect the "other logger" from your PC?  [Only one logger connected at any time]

3.  What happens if you just do that disconnect/connect procedure, and try to use the second-hand logger with your "current station"?  [Get a good backup of all data, of course, before trying that]

Of course, that might mess up what is currently working!

I notice it's been more than 2 days since Potterne Weather showed up here.  Perhaps my questions were at fault?

OK, 3 days.  Is it just me?  Or are other folks a bit annoyed when someone shows up asking for help, and several of us spend our time at least trying to help, and then the help-seeker just quits participating.

Of course, I suppose there could be a serious illness or accident or ........
