Have you looked in the Event Viewer, Security and Application logs? There is will tell you which program .exe or dll is causing it. You might not 'allowing' the right or all the required ones.

Hi dupreezd

What it is, when you update WD, there are lots of little programs within, some of these programs need permission to run
The problem arises sometime after you have said ok to give permission to WD to run, for example,

if you only have WD send an email when the station has met the criteria e.g. windspeed surpassed 30mph,
well, it could be hours or days before WD needs to send this email, at which point WD needs to use the "emailcron"
program and that is one that needs the permssion to run, so, you can imagine, this could be a problem if you
are on holdiay, no where near the PC for x amount of time and so on.

I might be wrong but i am fairly sure one of the little programs is important, and data loss occurs if its not allowed to run
oh yeah, theres a few, Awekas and WU (that i use), now, lets say the you updated and started WD giving permission to run and then go
to make a coffee and think nothing more about the weather PC cause you got sidetracked, well, theres a loss of data to
WU and awekas, myqsl wont update, bloomsky wont update, emial reports and alerts are not getting sent and so on because
even thoug you gave these little programs permissions before, you didnt think they would need them again but updating WD
as restarted that all over again.

it took me some internet searching to finally track down which setting in windows will prevent this permissions popup and
it turned out to be the internet downloads one.
Kind regards

Hi jgillett

Just realised, you said windows 7 not 10, i also thought that you may have already turned off or bypassed the UAC?

Try

Fire up the Control Panel
Select "Internet Options"
Security
Custom Level
Under the "Miscellaneous" branch
Find "Launching applications and unsafe files"
Set it to "Enable (not secure)"
Save your way out of there.

Now the security warnings are gone. However, Internet Explorer will complain every time you open it by displaying an error page with a yellow information bar.

To get rid of it:

Run "gpedit.msc"
Under "Computer Configuration"
Select "Administrative Templates"
"Windows Components"
"Internet Explorer"
Change "Turn off the Security Settings Check feature" to "Enabled"
That should stop the annoying error messages.
Kind regards

Bashy,

Woke up this morning to find even more errors, mainly on my home page, but it seems to be leeching out. Main data is not being updated properly. clientrawrealtimeftp is flashing every 5 seconds but I think that's a fib. ftpupd is not showing in the tray. Tried to nudge it with a double click and got the error shown below. I'm the admin so that shouldn't be happening.

Made your first change under "Try" below and saved it. I never use IE but did your "To get rid of it" item anyway.

It looks like something is rapidly eating away at settings and files on this system (W7 Pro x64 - all MS updates applied as they come in). Malware and virus scans are clean. Malwarebytes is running but /wdisplay/ is an exclusion.

My banner below is showing correct data and is being updated. Different app, of course, so maybe problems are solely in /wdisplay/?

Care to go offline on this if you have the time?

Thank you.

John

If you cannot get access, then try right click, propertise on the folder, security tab
then click edit to change permissions, then you will see your username, make sure all boxes are ticked, then click ok.

Also, on the application you are having issues with,  right click, choose compatibility tab
and choose run as administrator at the bottom, then click ok (do it when program closed)

First item brings 'You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings'.

Second item, I did have it set to run as admin but that is now unticked and I can't change it because of the above.

Thanks.

Yes. Had already double-checked that. "John, Administrator, Password protected", although I don't remember setting a password on this system and am not asked for one on a system restart.

Not having a password can sometimes cause security issues, and you can get around not having to put  one in on startup, this you may have done a while back but forgot? Not having the pc in front of me makes it very hard to resolve issues but I think I am about at my limit.

You might be in your best interest to nip on to Tom's Hardware site, join up and ask on there, they are brill!

Bashy,

Got it :!: =D> \:D/  It took a full restore of /wdisplay/ from a backup adjusting the selected backup date to make sure the previous WD version and all associated files were grabbed. There were also some WD settings that had been messed up. Interesting that all the failures started appearing immediately on the failure of a WD update. Not pointing at WD but something got turned loose inside that directory. More and more things were going bad in real time.

Thanks again.
