Problem connecting 2902
« on: August 28, 2018, 09:52:11 PM »
Trying to connect my Osprey 2902 with Android tool app.  I make sure connected to 2.4g network, get a quick message on the screen that the mac address of the unit is connected, but then it does not show up on the screen anywhere.  Tried a couple of times, also unplugged the display unit and cleared data uninstall/reinstall the app...same thing.  Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Do you know if you have a WS-2902 or a WS-2902A?

Realize that the WS-2902A is easier to get connected. Also a WS-2902 can be converted to become a WS-2902A with a firmware update. The two are configured using different apps. Ambient Tool is for original WS-2902...and awnet is for the WS-2902A. They each use different methods and different buttons too besides the different apps.

Here is help for both models:

https://ambientweather.net/help/i-cannot-connect-my-ws-2902a-to-wifi/

And here is how to convert a WS-2902 into a WS-2902A
https://ambientweather.net/help/how-do-i-convert-my-console-from-a-ws-2902-to-ws-2902a/

* If your device is running firmware 4.x.x then you have a WS-2902A

TIP: I've had trouble even with a WS-2902A even after following all the right steps. What I had to do is a factory reset...and then it worked. Follow instructions for a factory reset. (You will lose all high/low and rain data if it has previously been connected and used.)

Ok.  I will try this tomorrow.

Do you know if I can use the outdoor unit for the 2902, with my older ip-1400 so I can push data out to CWOP?

Seems like I had it connected once before, and worked for the most part, but rain seemed to way underreport.

Thanks for all your help!!!

Yes you can combine the WS-2902/A outdoor sensor array with the indoor receiver (ObserverIP) and the indoor temp/hum/press sensor that came with the WS-1400-IP.  You'll first need to be sure to be a the lastest firmware on the ObserverIP device and then you'll have the option to select WS-1600-IP as the model to connect to. The ObserverIP called the outdoor WS-2902A sensor array a WS-1600-IP...It just does, because maybe someday the WS-1600-IP may be sold but maybe not from what I've heard and it will be essentially like a WS-1400-IP but with the newer outdoor sensor array (and no display console). But just like the WS-1400-IP could be expanded with a console to become like a WS-1200-IP the same is true here.

If all that is too confusing, just know this...it all works together in any combination you want. Just have the latest firmware and choose the right configuration. Mix and match and have as many displays as you want or get rid of the displays and just use ObserverIP, your choice.

The rain reporting issue you mentioned when you had the ObserverIP connected is because you had it set for WS-1400-IP which counts differently. Needs to be set to WS-1600-IP (with new firmware that option shows up).
