ftp problem
« on: May 21, 2009, 03:58:53 PM »
My computer setup:
Windows XP SP3 on all computers
4 wired computers to Linksys router(WRT 610N)
GRLevel3 running 6 instances spread across 4 computers (6 ftp instances at various times)
Interwarn( 1 ftp every 5 minutes
SmartFTP (ftp 10 various files from VWS)
WU (edcast noaa weather radio 24/7)
ISP (Charter Comm with 10mb down and 1 mb up)
web host (Network Solutions with shared hosting plan and not even close to limit for space or memory)

When SmartFTP tries to ftp a file to web host server it shows a 35 second delay from time it tries to ftp a file till the time file actually gets put on server. This has been happening for at least 45 days anywhere from all 10 files on SmartFTP to just occassionally. Network Solutions says its not them and Charter Comm says its not them so that leaves just me. I have tried to do away with WU radio through edcast and use wm encoder9. That does slow down the send button on the modem but ftp problem still exists so went back to edcast. Haven't noticed any problem with GRlevel3 but there maybe a long time out in that program which would prevent me from seeing a problem. The aggravating part is that during that 35 second delay which ever file is being sent to server shows as a blank on web page as if it wasn't even there. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated and if any more info is needed I can try and furnish that also.

I have tried passive mode also. Same thing happens with VWS ftp, filezilla and 3dftp. All the same results.

Have you tried Fling?
http://www.nchsoftware.com/ftp/index.html

I've been using it for years and it's works great for me.

Yep try that, and also I noticed that my host (go daddy) will only allow a certain number of ftp log-ins at one time.  Perhaps your software is not closing the connections properly or too many things hitting it at once.

I have the cheap GoDaddy also.  I'm allowed only one FTP connect at a time.  My previous ISP allowed me to FTP from VWS & ImageSalsa simultaneously.
I wondered why some items weren't updated.  GoDaddy said I could pay more for better features.

With Godaddy I am theoretically allowed up to 50 ftp concurrent log ins, but I noticed when I have 5 or more sessions in progress, its hard to squeeze another in.

I get a "more than 2 users" error on occasion when I login manually with Filezilla and Fling is working away in the background.  I emailed support about it.  they said the limit is 2 concurrent, no way to change.   I had 4 different ftp users in fling for my various uploads.  I thought perhaps the previous one was not dropping, when the next logged in.  So I changed them all to one username.
