Major Storm Line
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:22:53 PM »
Hey, all.

We had a line of severe storms roll through here around 6:00pm today. My station received 1.90 inches of rain in about 20 minutes. My rainfall rate was 13 inches/hr for a couple minutes.  The tip bucket must have heated up from the friction.  I'm still waiting to hear the official word on the number of confirmed tornadoes.

Ironically, my high wind was only 12 mph, yet an 82 mph wind was reported about 4-6 miles west of me (moving straight from west to east).

The weather is truly amazing!

Regards,

Kevin...

I've been keeping an eye on that.  Looks like things could get busy again here later on into tomorrow.

We had a good electrical storm, probably the most severe in a couple of years regarding the lightning ground strikes around 4:00 am Wednesday morning.  The power only went out momentarily here but I know of several people in the county that had major damage to anything electrical in their homes.

That line fired some storms here about 5-6pm Eastern this eveneing.  They went both North and South of me with only just enough sprinkles to wet the ground here.  By the news reports it looks like they had a smaller tornado or at the very least some very strong straight line wind damage 30 miles to my N.W.

WBNS viewers sent in some pretty good pictures that can be seen here:

Mark:

Glad to hear your town "dodged the bullet". Fenton (20 miles south from me as the crow flies) was severely damaged by at least one tornado last evening. Apparently the only injuries were traffic related that occurred during the storm, but many homes and business were badly damaged. One business that keeps making the news is a tractor store (thought you'd be interested  ) that was badly damaged and had been open for only 3 weeks.

Hope they had their insurance taken care of.

One of the guys over there said his neighbor lost a barn which would have been in the Charlotte area.

Mark, I was watching the Browns game last night on the internet from a feed from WBNS. During breaks they were showing some pics from the storm. Looked pretty nasty. In that link you posted there is one from Newark that is just outstanding!
