ws-5300 disappointed me again
« on: March 29, 2012, 11:50:52 AM »
again and again in heavy rain or snowfall the ws-5300 signal lost , so you lost the data especially the rain amount , and after removing and returning the batteries it is lost again and again, I was thinking to buy ws2080 but now i dont think so , seems i will really consider vantage vue or VP2  :-(

Don't lump all of the WS (Fine Offset) systems in with the 5300. I have a 1080 clone and have had no issues through heat, cold, snow, and rain with mine. Could just be that system, no reason to think the 2080 will be worse.

I hope that other models do not have the same issue because it is really frustrating in the conditions that the weather station should work it stops , and I'm really looking for a reason , is it because i mounted it on the top of my apt in the roof ( here our building are from concrete) or i have to mount it extactly in the same level that's what i'm going to do, thanks Todd

Perhaps the console/display location can help with the connection. Try placing it near different windows.?
Are there other areas on the roof you can try that may have a clearer transmission path to your apartment?
Have you checked all the batteries with a multimeter? Even brand new they can be low and this can cause a weak signal.

Mine is mounted 30 feet away through a few walls and I've had no issues regardless of conditions. I've had it farther away and through more walls and still never experienced any connection problems. Not really sure how yours is setup or how far away, the Fine Offset equipment normally runs at 915 MHz so you may need to see if there are interference issues.

Now I"m thinking to move the station down in the same level where console located inside and need to simulate heavy rainfall ,because no expected heavy conditions in next week ,can I use watering bucket to perform this task

If you are experiencing drop outs during heavy rains and snow storms I would believe it's caused by the increased moisture in the air between the sensor suite and the console. (Propagation attenuation in technical terms). Pouring lots of water over the rain gauge won't simulate this effect. Moving them closer together, and/or more of a line-of-site installation may help and as Stetson1 mentioned, checking for possible interference in the area (both around the sensors as well as the console inside).

My station is mounted 30 feet or so away and 8-10 feet vertically lower from the base unit.

Try to use AA lithium batteries,it have 7 times more power from alcaline batteries, and it work without problems at extreme weather contitions.
