Using BTHR968 or outdoor temps ??
« on: August 12, 2009, 07:19:10 PM »
My outdoor sensor is shot from a RH standpoint :( The indoor sensor is working fine so my question is...Is there a way to use the BTHR as the outside temp unit with the 968? It would be in a FARS so I am not worried about it being exposed.

Any thoughts??

You can put your indoor sensor outside, in a covered manner.  However on the WMR968 console the number will still be displayed as inside temp/humidity.  What you should do is get purchase an extra sensor, set it channel 1 and leave your wmr968 console to display that on Channel 1.  If you have VWS software there is a setting that allows you to swap channel 1 and the Outdoor sensor as well.

I also have issues with the RH% on the original wmr968 Channel 0 sensor and have adjusted it with an offset in VWS.  If you go to my site and look at my detailed condtions page you can see the difference between the CH 0 outdoor RH sensor that comes with the wmr968 and my channel 1 "extra" sensor.  Sometimes they match very well, other times the RH% is off by 12%. The two sensors are within 6 inches of each other, and I already have a offset set to 12%.  So in reality the spread is sometimes as much as 24%.

You can purchase the extra sensors on Ambient's site or you can find a good deal on Ebay, like I did this weekend.  I will getting 5 more just so I can have some backups and such.

A good additional outdoor sensor to consider that is channel selectable is the THRG268. I have had as many as 3 of them in use at one time.

Thanks,

If you are using a FARS, make sure you get the 268 instead of the 122. I put one in my shield and it really knocked down the already short range, the 268 does much better.

Thanks for the ehads up but I should be OK. The FARS is about 25-30 feet from the base unit. I'm also behind vinyl siding so I'm hoping it's OK. The FARS is also made of PVC. I can only hope Lol.

Thanks!

:-)  I installed the 268 in a radiation shield "pagoda" from Ambient today and the range is much, much better than when I had the 122NX in there.  I've swapped my outdoor readings to this sensor via the "channel 1" command from VWS, and I'm following my data quality report now from MADIS to see if it's o.k.
The 268 is a fine sensor; much more range than the 122NX, which is also a fine sensor, albeit low output of Tx signal.

Henry,

Looking at your QA charts, I can tell when you changed the sensors.  Your humidity looks a lot closer now.  It will be interesting to see how it looks tomorrow after it's had some time to settle in.

Weeks of frustration...and I may finally have "accuracy"  =D>
Let's see...

Glad you got.  I too am suffering from so unusual Humidity numbers.  Just not ready to sacrifice my channel 1 sensor for the cause yet.

You know Sam, I understand where you're coming from.
I too, resisted the need to change my outdoors temp readings to Channel 1 from Channel 0.
Alas, it's inevitable.  That THGR 968 is a piece of junk, as you yourself have mentioned in the Forums.
My outdoor temps with that sensor were nearly perfect; just not so with humidity.
Such a shame.  :-(

I have a strong conviction that I'll finally get some accuracy, and then be able to share my data with others, knowing it's accurate.
We'll see.

The 122 is running fine inside the FARS and the accuracy of both my Temp and Hum. has improved 10 fold it seems.

Now if only I could get WV32 to see a channel 1 with the 968 I'd be set.  ](*,)

Yeah I wish OS would offer a redesigned sensor on the 0 channel or if I could find a hack that could change a 1,2,3 channel unit onto the 0 channel.  I would so be on that.
