It was designed to only connect to Weather Underground and to myAcurite.
But if you set up 3rd party software like Acuparse or WeeWx then you get to send your data to more places. Both of these software require intercepting the Weather Underground packets before they leave your network.
Acuparse does not intercept Weather Underground packets.
Okay so Acuparse captures myAcurite data from the Access then? I thought that was encrypted or unusable.
So will acurite find a solution to this?
The framework is already set up to other weather services in myAcurite. They just need to flip a switch.
It's simply a question of when they choose to do it.
I think this is a terrible solution. I don't like how Ambientweather.net does this for PWSweather. And I don't like how Weatherlink.com does this for CWOP. Sure it makes it easy from a customer perspective because everything is configured in the manufacturer's cloud but you lose control and options.
Weatherlink.com only uploads to CWOP every 15 minutes. And I can do 5 minutes if I use other software.
Ambientweather.net only uploads to PWSweather.com every 1 minute and I feel that is too much as it really messes up the legibility of their small low resolution graphs. PWSweather looks better with 5 minute data. Which is why I use other software for PWSweather.
I can only imagine that if myAcurite were to offer other site uploads that there would be similar constraints. Data from your station should be locally accessible. Not constrained to the manufacturer's cloud service. Or the station hardware should natively support upload to more sites without leveraging the manufacturer's cloud. If the Access can natively upload to WU then it should be able to upload to yet other services without need of myAcurite. Now if Acurite want to use myAcurite to configure your Access to then be be uploader then that is a good idea, as long as enough control is part of the solution.
