Weather Software?
« on: April 01, 2011, 07:48:40 AM »
I am running Weatherlink IP but it isn't supported by some sites. Would there be any benefit to looking at other software? I eventually am going to have a website so I want to get the software that is the must useful.

You should try out Weather display http://www.weather-display.com/files.php

I would say that is one of the best weather software, there are some free as well but not as good as WD.

And one other important thing is the support for WD, It's incredible, see here http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php

Totally agree WD (Weather Display) is the way to go...

Weather Display seems way too confusing. There is just too many features crammed into it. I'd stay with Virtual Weather Station if I were you.

Don't forget Weather Display Live, an add-on for Weather Display.

Weather Display does have somewhat of a steep learning curve but in the end I have always felt it worth it. And you can usually find an answer to a setup question on their forum  http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/

Or here. There is still loads I haven't learned that it will do yet but maybe one of these days I will learn a little more, but after using both VWS and WD my vote goes to Weather Display..It's just a food for thought situation from here :)

I guess I am confused (what's new?)...Is it necessary to purchase WD Live along with WD in order to provide data to other sites? (WU, etc)...Thanks...

No, not necessarily needed. I send data to WU, CWOP, Weather Bug, Weather 4 You and others using just the basic Weather Display program.
WD Live does add some additional functionality but you can do this without it.

I'm another Weather Display user and highly recommend it.
Sure it's not free, but you get lifetime updates for nothing and you can request add-ons. There is a lot in the program but it has a universal setup that makes it easy to get you going, then you can find your way around.

Weather Display Live is an add-on and as such is not required for the running of Weather Display. The live version is simply for use on a web page and updates as fast as you want it too, anything from 3 seconds to daily.

Cumulus is also worth looking at. It free to download, will store you data and upload it to a web site. It also includes the pages and file to allow an easy website set up. I'd need to check whether Cumulus will work with Weatherlink IP though, as I'm not 100% sure.  ;)

I you don't mind running Linux http://www.wviewweather.com   Free / Opensource, supports CWOP, Weatherforyou, Wunderground out of the box.    Standard has a webpage(s) that can easily be modified.

I'm running into a problem with wview.  It uses libusb-1.0, which isn't supported across very many platforms.  I've started looking at porting it to my server OS, but it's daunting - having to learn a whole new set of hardware interfaces for a program that worked fine with the original 0.1 version (which is pretty much universally supported).  If you are running one of the supported Linux distros or Windows-32 bit, you are in good shape.
