Was TWC better before or after NBC took over?

I see The Weather Channel as less weather oriented after NBC took over. In my opinion, The Weather Channel is becoming a news channel. What do ya'll think?

TWC was far better when they stuck to the weather.  Any time you tuned in to find out what the forecast was you were sure to find them giving the weather.  Now you don't know what you will find. :-( ](*,)

TWC's been going dowhill for years.  The only segments that are worthwhile are Greg Forbes, Steve Lyons and their Hurricane coverage.  I don't watch Storm Stories or any of the other similar shows; too over dramatized.

I agree.
A long time ago it was all about weather. Now, not so much.
But they had to make the change to appeal to the masses. Catering to us weather junkies is a recipe for failure.
They had to bring in people who weren't obsessed with weather. In the process they pushed us out.

I haven't watched TWC at all for several months, and very little in the past few years.  I got tired of tuning in at 8PM Eastern, only to see the 24th airing of the great Snoqualmie flood of 1694.

I ditto what Josh said.
Though I did enjoy Vortex 2 stuff, for a while.

As I stated in another thread...it's all about ratings, which = $.

I voted before in the poll but I should note that I mean WAY before NBC took over. When they still took a scientific attitude towards global warming rather than political, when the weather was shown eighteen hours a day, when I actually had respect for them. That was a long time ago folks.

Does anybody remember Dale Daukus (sp?).  I liked him.  He had a good sense of humor.  I guess that's why he left.  I wonder where he ended up.

Another big thing for me is how environmentalist they have become, even before the NBC takeover. Frank Batten, the man who founded TWC, doesn't even watch it now because of how environmentalist it is.

I stopped watching it a couple of years ago, mainly because it got:

-Rather annoyingly political
-Way too much news..about nothing weather related sometimes
-Inflated..NBC bought it..why wouldn't it be?
-Don't like the way the new Local on the 8's looks (IntelliStar wise..I liked the dark blue, not this baby blue crap and blue bar at the bottom)
-IE8 is not supported for its IE Weather bar. The desktop software I like better than a few years ago however.

Maybe it will get better again when Comcast buys NBC and separates the broadcast and Cable/Sat divisions.

A good thought, but I doubt it will ever get better. :-)

:-) While watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade today, Al Roker plugged the Weather Channel!
Kind of made the Parade too commercialized.  I was disappointed.  :-x

And to quote myself here..LOL

I'll add the following points:

-they don't have any software for Mac; the screensaver they "supposedly" have for Mac OS X doesn't freakin' work
-the software they do have for PC is out of date. Period.
-I now try to do my OWN weather forecasts; post them on facebook Notes (map and all, but I wish facebook allowed pictures to be copied and pasted, instead of uploaded at the bottom where you can't get them live updated, like NWS weather maps)
-and TWC has gone so far to tick me off that I'm even looking into a weather map generator, such as this: http://vortex.plymouth.edu/make_no_frame.html, but for software, not online generators

-and even there, I'm looking into putting a big US map with a plexi-glass panel over it and using dry-erase to draw out my forecasts. Sure beats pencil and eraser.

Okay I'm done ranting here.  8-)

Chris:
Way funny, but true!  :-)
Way too many commercials on The Weather Channel now...it's just annoying.
Best thing about TWC now is "waking up with Al" and checking out Stephanie Abrams!  \:D/
