This Bastardi guy is just a damn fool who should have his Met ticket revoked.

I don't know how accurate he usually is but a few days ago he said this would go up the spine of Florida.

From what I read, he was downright adamant about it going up the coast and hitting NC/SC as a Cat4 or 5.  Then when he was proven wrong there, he started babbling about a Cat 5 hitting the coast and being the worst thing they've ever seen.

He should go to Hollywood and write Irwin Allen type disaster flicks.

Here's a chart of the flow of the Mississippi River.  Notice where it goes below zero that the river is flowing backwards.

That's wild. I read as the storm approached the mouth of the river on the 28th that it pushed a wall of water nearly 11 feet high inward.

Mornin' Isaac.

First glimpse as it moves in from the south.  Brighter spots are reflections on the camera dome.

Only a 30% of showers here after 1am, Fri., increasing to 40% later Friday.  More clouds are expected to keep the high Fri. to mid 80s, after being near 97 Thursday.  If all Issac is able to do is cool things off for a day, it will still be a nice effect.

I'm so excited about the prospect of a good 3-4 inch soaker over a couple days here.  I'm still a bit skeptical we will actually get anything like that, but I'm hoping.  I hope I wake up tomorrow and see that cloud deck to the south like is on WeatherHost's cam.

Cloudy to most cloudy here from Isaac, enough, so far, to barely keep the temp under 90.  Weak showers have formed just to the east of here and moving SSE.  Chance of rain is 40% this Fri. afternoon, dropping to 30% tonight.  Perhaps the Stillwater area is the farthest west Isaac gets with its precipitation.  Webcam view from NW Stillwater looking WNW.

I picked up almost 1/4" from a thunder shower tonight.  It's a start.  Woo-hoo!  ;)

I got a measly .03 from Isaac.  Oh well, we have more chances later this week.  After Labor Day hits the century mark, that is.

Up to a little over two and a half inches with a couple of bands still likely to swing through.

We got some here in middle Tennessee today.
But, mainly the western counties saw the bulk of the higher rainfall amounts:

Too late though.  Damage is already done.  Lots of shrubs and plants lost.  Won't help most farmers.  Might help some of the soy beans, but many other crops are lost.

Future damage may not be calculated for some time.  There was a story on local news not too long ago about farmers having hay trucked in from down south.  Turns out at least some of it is infested with fire ants which means they are being trucked in to areas they don't now populate.  Whether or not they take hold remains to be seen.

And we don't know yet what other bugs and diseases may have been transported.  The upper midwest and plains haven't really been affected by plants like Kudzu.  Will they be now?

That's something to think about.  If the winter gets really cold for a long time, the kudzu and fire ants may not make it (hopefully).  The kudzu is really a nuisance and fire ants are really hateful and their sting really hurts.  So I hope they don't infest other areas.

Saw a show about fire ants last week where they introduced a type of fly that is a natural enemy of the fire ant. Being as it is hard wired to go after the ants they did a test study in Texas.
It looks promising so maybe they will continue.
The fly's actually implant their eggs into the ants. The larvae grows and kills the ants.

^  I'm leery of those kinds of things.  Sometimes the cure turns out to have more side effects than the original problem and they may not show up for many years.  Long enough that traditional studies and tests may not find them.
