I keep seeing the predicted path move more and more westward slightly, out into the gulf as it pushes up toward the panhandle.

The red "cone" is heading more and more to New Orleans.

Yeah, but it's where the cone is inland that interests me.

I think this is what we like to call "Rapid Intensification"

It's still got a hell of a dry slot on the SE side of the center.  That will all change tonight though as it makes it out over warmer water overnight.  I hate to say it, but this storm is big, and is reminding me a little of Katrina.  Not only in size but in location.

Depending on how much water makes its way with the storm, Issac may help relieve some of the drought in our heartland.

Man you're not kidding.
Probably to late for the crops but at least the area will get a good soaking and help replenish the water table.

Barges are aground in the Mississippi River.  It's going to take a lot of rain to refill.

But with as dry as things have been, the trees may be more brittle and could break easier in TS winds.

Hasn't approached land yet, other than Florida.  Big coastal rains will probably increase today.  Inland rains won't start accumulating for another day or so.

But then.....

Why isn't this a hurricane yet?  Seeing dropsonde reports of 70kt winds and the pressure is I think the lowest ever for a tropical storm.  This has to be a hurricane right?

Also this is basically our best shot at a drought buster but it looks like it will be a pretty steep gradient for who gets the precip and who doesn't.  Hope we get some, we missed all of last weekends "big rain".

So far, Isaac has up to a 50% chance of bringing rain to my part of Oklahoma on Friday. Interesting that a couple of the 16 or so projected paths have it passing to the west of me.  Seems like most weather experts, though, think it will pass through Arkansas when it starts steering northeast.  Arkansas needs the extra rain as bad or worse than Oklahoma.
