... and on a brighter note
« on: February 19, 2010, 11:24:16 AM »
I saw a red-breasted Cardinal the other day. The first one I've seen out here. I always see the "plain-jane" Northern Cardinals which are of the bird-brown color but never one with so much red. Not the full red type but plenty of it.

We climbed to 67F yesterday and at 9AM it's already 53F. Still mid/low 30s over nite. The sun sets at 6PM, the birds are chipping, the weeds are blooming and the pigeons are a'crapping.

These types of days make me appreciate my location when I read about you poor folks buried in snow and facing flood conditions. I hope you all get thru it without harm and without property damages.

Then again, once Spring breaks out here, Monsoon is only that much closer...

  Dang pigeons, flying rats I say!   It's broken 70 degrees the past three days here and with 57 at 9:30am it looks like we might do it again today. The ridge over us should break down this weekend and allow the next shot of rain to move through.

Couldn't agree with you more on that one.  I threw away my snow shovel a looong time ago!  \:D/

Pat,

The Northern Cardinal females are all brown. The males are all solid red. A Red Breasted Cardinal is red only on the head with a grey and white body.

Now STOp tormenting us up here with how warm it's getting Lol. Looking at a possible MAJOR Snowstorm end of the week at the worst. LOTS of rain ant the other end. Models are a bit screwy right now  ](*,)

It's sunny and 40 here today and everyone is talking about how nice it is today!  That snow storm is headed our way as well.  May start as a wintery mix for NW Ohio first.

Feel like the middle of April here.  We almost broke 70 degrees yesterday.  No rain here in over 10 days.  The storm that was predicted to arrive today has already stated to wash out as it hits the coast, so not likely to see much.  The second storm that was supposed to have been the wetter of the two is also washing out even faster.

February is "supposed" to be our wettest month of the year, but so far we have only 2.67 in for the month.  Our normal is close to 9.00.  :(

I had a high temp of 46.0 today. Snow/Rain mix in the forecast for first of the week........

....But now I have to wait for all this snow to melt, then a heavy rain (to wash the road salt away), before I can wash and detail my car.  At this point I can't rely on it to be clean for more than about 15 minutes after I pull out of my driveway. ](*,)

Well... now they're calling for a chance of rain over the weekend and a chance of snow Mon/Tues. The sunny 70F they promised has gone poof!

The sun finally came out here but it is still cold--27º w/ 2" of snow on the ground.  A VERY different picture from what we left in San Jose yesterday AM.

Have fun with that Steve.  8-)

Heard a blue bird yesterday and saw a robin on the way to work today.
That means 6 more weeks of winter up here LOL

Looking at the webcam at my back yard, it looks like we've had about an inch.  The temp is 33, so I don't expect it to stay too long.

We had only about a dusting here this morning and all of that has vanished already.. Temps currently 33 so I don't expect any will stick if we get any more precip.

They're still calling for 1-3" here, it's right at 32 degrees and not expected to get any warmer. Every other school system around us is getting out early today, but not us!

30 here with 2 1/2 inches of snow.  Calling for 3-5 tonight.  Been a cold winter.    We've only seen the ground twice for a few days this winter.  It hasn't been like that here for about 25yrs.
We have several pairs of cardinals coming to our feeder.   Of course it is our state bird.

:-)  Hey Pat?  What I'd like to know is who cleans the snow off the VLA (Very Large Array)?
Does it snow there?
Must be a brutal job if it does.

That's more Chris H's turf - up north. I'm all the way down on the south end of the state. (I probably should know the answer tho'...   )

Now that I think about it - I've never even seen the VLA! I guess I should make a trip up that way some day. Last time I was up that way was 1981 when I was moving to Las Vegas NV from The Island.

It's a beautiful part of the country, that's for sure.
