VirtualVP 1.2.3 TCP/IP Only Configuration
« on: December 22, 2009, 02:18:57 PM »
I have gotten a few inquiries about how I have VirtualVP, VPLive, WeatherLink and Virtual Weather Station configured on Windows 7 x64.  The attached diagram shows my configuration.  Note that I do not have any COM drivers installed as this is a pure TCP/IP configuration.  The diagram is a little fuzzy due to the size restrictions on the forum.

One item of note is the fourth Virtual Console which is labeled Remote - This is another installation of VPLive on a laptop that I use wirelessly around the office to check station readings.

Feel free to ask questions if you need clarification.

Hello,

My apologies for such an untimely post...

With Tom's diagram above, I have successful communication with WeatherLink v5.9.3 and WD v10.37 build 75 via VVP v1.2.5 as I was under the impression that a TCP/IP config (in lieu of a virtual COMM config) would alleviate the below error in WeatherLink when attempting to save a report file locally:

GetAcknowledge () response: 0x0A (should be 0x06 <ACK>

Can I assume this is a VVP issue? Anyone successful either uploading or creating local files within WeatherLink when using VVP with another weather app such as WD or VWS?

I'm really at wits end with this error.

Regards,
Gordon

How do you find and remove any COMM drive that have been installed? I moved to a new W7 64bit and tried the old way first. Didn't work.....

You may not know, but how do you the TCP/IP for Weather Display, VirtualVP and WeatherLink together?  The reason I ask is because Weather Display won't let me enter anything in the boxes for TCP/IP.

you should be able to enter into the Davis VP TCP/IP in the com port setup OK in WD
but first, make sure you have set it to be a Davis VP in the weather station type setup
also not not use the
Data via TCP IDRAM
you use the tab that mentions TCP/IP and meteohub

I succeeded in getting WeatherLink to work through TCP/IP, but still can't get Weather Display to work with it.  Is the correct addres for Weather Dispay 192.168.1.161?  The address WeatherLink is working off of is 127.0.0.1.

I hate to get into these things when I KNOW so little, but; the address of all LOCAL programs should be 127.0.0.1 : the PORT should vary per program such as 5511, 5512, 5513, etc. Try that and I hope it helps. Works on mine. I do have my final TCP/IP address set as 192.168.1.113 but that is feeding a second VirtualVP on a second computer on my network (if you do this you will have to set at least that computer to a static IP).

use the client list in your router (i.e access your router via your browser)
to see what the IP address the IP data logger is (you can find it via the DID code)
and then set WD to that
(there is a FAQ on the WD forum about this too)
I use WD with a IP data logger myself

Weather Display still isn't working with Virtual VP, even though I changed to the correct IP address of my laptop where the IP data logger is.  In Virtual VP on the bottom of the status page an error says:  "Weather Display Too many consecutive socket errors will try to reconnect." It doesn't.  Further more, using my laptop's IP address eventually knocked my wireless router off.  Couldn't restore internet service until I changed the IP address back to 122.0.0.1.   So things are still pretty confusing here.

Thanks, I know so little about VirtualVP, too.   I tried setting both Weatherlink and Weather Display to 127.0.0.1 on my laptop.  VirtualVP got Weatherlink connected but not Weather Display.

In Virtual VP on the bottom of the status page an error says:  "Weather Display Too many consecutive socket errors will try to reconnect.
when that occurs, you need to restart VVP

also there is debug info in WD under view, WS2010/WS2500 data setup

so restart VVP
then restart WD
then see what shows under that

ha, ha, the heading for the report was WS200/WMR-900H/La Crosse data report.  This is wrong since I have WD set to Davis.  It also made a number of connections that were refused until it stopped and said error with TCP/IP connection.  It's IP address is set to 127.0.0.1 port 5511 and set same in Virtual VP.

the last time I tested the TCP/IP connection with VVP it worked with no problem
using the default IP and port that VVP has set to stations to connect to
I will test again here now, standy

works OK here
set to use the TCP/IP Davis setup
then restarted WD
I then see this under view, WS2010/WS2500 data setup
TCP/IP connected to 127.0.0.1
and in VVP it shows that its sending data OK to the virtual console 5 (make sure you have ticked enabled in VVP)

From the console, Virtual VP seems to be connecting to Weather Display, but Weather Display is showing no weather readings.   In view/debug the report is still titled,"WS200/WMR-900H/La Crosse data report" even though WD is set to Davis.  It keeps attempting to get missed data without success.

correct
do not worry

try turnng off the data logger, under control panel, data logger setup
then restart WD
also make sure the correct revb type setting is set in the weather station type setup
and also check on the barometer offset in WD
.zip and email me your settings files and I will test here

I gave up going with the TCP/IP route and tried my luck with the ports.  It worked, but not fully.  The rain part of the display is reading all zeros and don't understand why that is.  It recently rained.

if could have emailed me your settings files I could have checked on them here with VVP

re the rain, note that WD stores its own rain totals separate from the station
when it rains as WD is running the rain totals should increase (but maybe check the rain gauge resolution settings, rain guage type, etc)
