What do You Think is the Worst Hurricane in US History?
« on: November 18, 2011, 09:02:22 AM »
So what hurricane or tropical storm for that matter, is the worst of all time? Of modern times, I would have to go with Katrina, but in the entire history, I have read that the Galveston one is pretty bad

The 1900 Galveston hurricane was the deadliest with 8,000 deaths (Katrina came in third with 1,200 deaths).  Katrina was the costliest at $108,000,000,000.

...and I also believe Katrina had the highest winds ever recorded, and maybe the lowest pressure (Not 100% certain on that last part)

Thanks for the heads up on that :-)

I believe that Katrina passed Allen for the highest recorded sustained wind during a single advisory
