WeatherLink 5.7 and Windows Vista RC1
« on: October 27, 2006, 01:12:06 PM »
Has anyone tried using weatherlink software with Vista yet?  I setup a dual boot on my system so that I could try out Vista RC1.  I then tried to run WeatherLink, but ran into some trouble.  Whenever I launch WL from Vista I get an error message saying that it was unable to write to a config file.  I can click okay and everything works fine until it begins to upload data to the Internet.  Then I get the same config file error.  Any suggestions?

So, what did Davis support have to say about this, when you asked them?

I didn't ask Davis support.  There's no mention of Vista on the Davis site, that I found, so I doubt they even will discuss WL and Vista yet.

From what I understand, the new security features of Vista will prevent a config file being written in the Program Files folders of Windows.  I'm not sure if WL writes them there but if it does it would explain why it won't run with Vista.  An undate will be needed by Davis to make it compatable.  Does anyone know if this might be the issue here?

Could you do a manual config or is that not possible? I don't use WL so I'm not familiar enough with it. Just a suggestion.

Quite possibly. It all has to do with user account control and whether or not virtualization (a workaround for legacy apps trying to run in Vista) is turned on, what priviledges the program is running with etc. I would help to know the specific error that is being seen.
