Quote
November 2014 was certainly one to remember when it came to Michigan's weather, or maybe you'd rather forget it.

There were numerous new weather records set.

Some of the records dealt with cold weather, and some were snowfall records.

The snowfall records
The snowfall in November was mainly lake effect snow. There was very little what I call "system snow" which is the widespread snow from a large low pressure system. So the snowfall records fell mainly in the lake effect snowbelts. The images above show the November snowfall.

Sault Saint Marie had its snowiest November on record with 65.4" of snow. Gaylord also had a whole bunch of snow, tallying 65.1" of snow in November. Marquette, with 53" of snow also set a new record. Grand Rapids set a November snowfall record at 31" in total. Traverse City recorded 25.5" of snow, making it the second snowiest November.

Warmer for a few days.  Not warm, just not as cold.

Rumors floating about another cool down near the 1st.

Looks like something for Christmas brewing.

Forecast discussion extended North Platte: Temperatures support a mix bag of ptypes...which change over to rain
on Monday. Conditions dry Tuesday and midweek in advance of the
next trough to dig toward the Great Basin. Will need to watch this
system as it may bring accumulating snow to the County Warning Area late week and
into next week weekend...Arctic air will filter south and take up residence
...cooling
temperatures middle week and beyond are expected...with a strong push
of Arctic air possible late next week. This is supported by all
long range deterministic solutions.

Same here. Here is the end of my forecast discussion.

.OUTLOOK FOR CHRISTMAS DAY AND FRIDAY...GFS AND EC ADVERTISE A
DEEPER TROUGH MOVING INTO THE CENTRAL ROCKIES WITH A COLD AIRMASS
MOVING INTO THE PLAINS AND EASTERN MOUNTAINS. THIS PATTERN COULD
BRING SOME SNOW TO MOST OF THE CWA...INCLUDING THE INTERSTATE 25
CORRIDOR AND PLAINS. WILL HAVE TO MONITOR FOR THE POTENTIAL FOR
SOME HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ON THESE DAYS...BUT MUCH TOO
EARLY TO GET VERY SPECIFIC. --PGW--

Only white I want to see for Christmas is the white on top the mountains from my window. :-)

Humm, Colorado. Hehe, I know thats where the job is. I just love the mountains and jealous.
Here even though we don't get that many inches of snow it just hangs around. Even today its in the 20's 4 days after the storm.

Nice pic, those high mountains west of Denver going down toward Grand Junction are crazy in the winter. I've seen it where the only clouds around are right there with a raging winter storm dropping several feet of snow while Denver and rest of front range are sunny and mild. This goes on for days with heavy snow falling just in those mountains. One of the most unique micro climates in the country.

So far, December is right on average.  Almost right down the middle of the graph.

It has been colder than normal so far this December.  The average low temperature I measured is 55.8 F which is about 2.5 F below average.   My temperature sensor and shelter are located in the middle of a field with almost full sun during the day and far away from trees, buildings, and pavement.  The average low temperature for November was 61.9 F. The lowest temperature in November was 46.6 F and 39.8 F for December so far.   Last winter here was very warm with average high temperature near 78 F and low temperature near 60 F.

I wonder if the teleconnections will be favorable  for some very cold air from Canada in January.  I hate cold weather.

I keep hearing rumblings of a big chill, but the when keeps moving.  First it was suppose to be around the 23rd or 24th, then it moved to today or so.  Next it was supposed to be just before the first.  Now I hears it should be just after the first.

The other thing is the duration.  At first, it was supposed to last a week or more.  Now I hear it might be only few days.

Severity ---- at first, it was supposed to be a bone chiller.  Now I hear it may not be much below normal at all.

Discussion out of North Platte is still onboard of big chill:  The extended models remain is solid agreement.which all point
to re-enforcing shots of Arctic air diving south across the
intermountain west and plains.with at most a couple inches across our northern
zones...less further south. The cold front will be south of the
forecast area by 12z Monday and under a strong cold air advection
regime...highs will struggle to reach into the single digits both
Monday and Tuesday...with widespread subzero lows.
The coldest
temperatures will occur early on Wednesday as a 1050mb high drifts
south along the Lee of the central rockies. Double digit sub zero
lows are possible for much of the area
. There will be a slight
reprieve from the bitterly cold temperatures late week as a trough
cuts off a low over the Desert Southwest.

Hi All,

Hope that all had a wonderful White Christmas.

Here our White Christmas scenes at Mauna Kea on the Big Island. http://cfht.hawaii.edu/en/gallery/timelapse.php Check out the December 23rd time lapse for a white out blizzard and some rotation of the dome to keep it from freezing and shake off the snow/ice.

Otherwise, at sea level, it was a typical Hawaiian weather.  But the days before we had over 8" of rain in a 24 hour period.

Happy and safe Holiday Season.

Frosty Weather Whips Through San Diego County
NBC 7 San Diego    - ‎Dec 26, 2014‎

When it comes to winter in San Diego, we don't have to worry about our pipes freezing or shoveling our driveways. But for a lot of us used to a warmer winter, these cold temperatures are a bit much.
