2310 rain guage
« on: October 26, 2008, 10:15:03 PM »
The standard rain guage with the Lacrosse 2310 station works fine for me at readings of an inch or below.  I test it with a manual NOAA rain gauge mounted next to it.  with heavy rain, an inch or more, i get much higer readings with the 2310 guage, Yesterday it recorded 1.43" and the manual .97"  this appears to happen with every rain over one inch!  Has anyone noticed this problem?

What software you running? With most you can set an offset to say ignore the first tip of the day for "dew"...And going by another station can be hard to judge depending how far there away from you. You cant allways go by that.

I have a 2315, (same collector as 2310) and have just got a Nylex 1000 manual gauge to check it (and my no2 station).
So far the results have been good but I am waiting for some high rain rates to see what results I get.

I suspect the higher rain rates may under read due to water lose during the tip cycle when a tipping bucket is not in position to collected it.

i had a 2310 and had the same problem along with many others=\ eventually got a te923 then now a davis. the 2310 is a good  basic.. station and isn't really meant to be super accurate. if your wanting better accuracy you may want to step up to a different station or think about getting a wireless rain gauge...
