AcuRite 00899 Rain Gauge - Winterization
« on: October 01, 2012, 08:41:00 PM »
Rhino, or anyone else with Acu-Rite wireless rain gauges:

The manual says that the 00899 should be brought in for the winter.

Why? I left my old tipping bucket gauge out all winter for 10+ years with no problem. Is it the electronics (lithium cells) or the tipping bucket?
Can I just put a plastic bag over it for the winter?

The reason that I don't want to bring it in, is that I already broke off one of the tabs once (fixed with super glue).

By the way, can a replacement "funnel" be purchased?

Greg

We encourage folks to bring these in of the winter as freezing water can expand inside the unit and cause damage to some components. If you want to "plastic bag" it, would probably be fine. The electronics can handle the cold no problem.

Send me a PM with your contact info and I will see if customer service can get you a replacement funnel.

Thanks!
Ryan

A snap on cover as an accessory would be nice.
