Title: Animal Damage
Post by: yamiacaveman on January 13, 2018, 10:21:45 AM
Hi,

I'm thinking of moving my Davis weather station away from my house to a pole in my yard (position not determined yet). Just wondering if anyone has experienced damage from local animals.

It seems lately that my local black bear population has increased and there are no shortages of raccoons, squirrels and such. While i know that my Davis station does not smell like food, I can easily see an inquisitive bear wondering through my yard, looking up and see the start of a bee hive, and then trying to get to it.

So, again just wondering if anyone has experienced animal damage and if so recommendations to avoid a problem or perhaps it is not even a concern.

Thanks for any comments.

Just spiders and birds for me. I even have horses at one of my stations and have had no issues.

Bears can smell pretty good. I can see a bear maybe standing up and smelling it but with nothing edible inside I doubt he would spend the energy tearing it apart. Same with the other critters. Nothing edible so they should just move on.

That's they way I've been thinking about it, no smell - no interest- I hope.
