The idea is true. That video sucked. This is nothing new. The weather channel did not want to get into the science of 'corn sweat'

An acre of corn gives off about 3,000-4,000 gallons (11,400-15,100 liters) of water each day,
from http://water.usgs.gov/edu/watercycleevapotranspiration.html

The state of Iowa planted 2 million acres of corn in 2016 (Des Moines Register) (does not count soybeans)

Multiply those numbers then times the number of acres of corn and we get a humid day.
DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The media is making nothing out of nothing.

I have never seen corn sweat. If dad was alive, he would have laughed at that.

Yeah, the whole thing is a bit silly.  I've been involved in raising corn my whole life and I never heard of "corn sweat" before.

CNN had something about it a few days ago, too.

I wonder what causes all the heat and humidity in the drought years when the corn is burnt up?

No one talked about corn sweat in 2012-2013 when the US had its drought.
I think more humidity comes from the Gulf of Mexico.

More on NBC.  I cannot believe they are blaming evapotransporation for the heat wave.

With today's media, I'm not surprised. Blaming the ET on the heatwave, sure, whatever. Blaming on it on "corn sweat"?  I guess they forgot (or don't know about) about all of the grass, trees, lakes, rivers, etc. that also contribute to the total ET on a daily basis. The media, especially the national media is nothing more than an endless running National Enquirer using other means of social media to gather their "stories", instead of doing it on their own.

It does make one wonder how they would report the drought and corresponding heatwave that occurred during the Dustbowl? They would most likely make something up, not realizing that we inadvertently created it.

OK.  This is a bit more reasonable.  This guy seems to be saying the sensors are too close to the crops.

So how far from crops should we place our sensors?

That would make an interesting study. Space chains of temporary stations around a stand of corn and plot the results. What would you use for a control?

Oh damn it.... I wanted to put my station in the garden... now I see that would make it totally inaccurate...hmmm

Maybe you could just analyze historical data for various stations and see if there's a significant difference in RH readings between corn-planting years and soybean-planting years.
