additional wmr200 base unit? or can i use a WMR698??
« on: August 27, 2009, 09:49:29 PM »
Hi all

I have a WMR 200 system running here in Christchurch NZ that I want to add to my home weather service online

Id like to remote mount the base unit next to the Pc in my home office but still need a display for the lounge etc

Is it possible to add a second wmr200 base unit on its or some additional readout??

I thought about a cheaper WMR698 for the lounge

not sure if the wmr200 sensors would work though

any ideas?

thanks

Simon

The WMR-968 console will not work with your WMR200.  They use different sensor protocols on transmit of their data.

If you can purchase an additional wmr200 console, then I don't see why it should not work.
After all basically the console is a radio receiver.

On my WMR968 based station, I have 2 OS-wmr968 consoles, and 2 other Radio Shack consoles, that use the same sensor protocol.  So in total 4 "radio receivers" for my sensors.  All Works Great.

If you just want a display console for the lounge, you could pick up a wmr100 console, as its the same protocol as the 200 and much cheaper.

Only $91.95

Then you can leave your existing 200 connected to the computer in the "office"

A 200 console runs $171.95

The 200 looks nicer, but if its just the basics you would like to see in the lounge the 100 should be fine.

Might be able to find some used 100 stuff for cheaper on ebay.. might even get a whole 100 station for about that price or less. Used sensors are not usually a good idea, but the console is just a reciever, and you can alway keep the extra's for spare parts.

Its easily forgotten.     I would not reco to anyone as a station, or pc interface, but for a simple reciever for occasional viewing, should probably be ok.

I use exactly the setup that Andrew (mackbig) suggested and it works fine.

My 200 is in my study next to the computer and the 100 is in the kitchen.
