Meh.  omni-directional wind meters are useless IMHO

I'm not sure how I'd use this for my weather observations, but maybe the clowns for the Weather Channel and NBC news who go stand out in hurricanes to show how hard the wind is blowing and try to do the reporting could use it.

A friend had one of these kinds of units you show and as a radio control plane pilot he was able to take some readings of the crosswinds and down the runway vector portion of the wind.  Gusts were a problem, and things change.  But the flyers all seemed to like it when he hauled that out and took some readings.

(PS, I meant no personal offense to the clowns on TV, but perhaps when their producers come up with the bright idea of standing out in the wind driven rain they'll think twice and suggest some B roll video of the producer walking in the rain.)
