Temperature question between WS-2902A & 2000 model's
« on: October 31, 2018, 12:20:57 PM »
Just looking at the differences between the Ambient WS-2902A & the WS-2000 model. I notice the WS-2000 has an separate temperature gauge which isn't attached to the unit itself but the WS-2902A doesn't. Is it internal and is it as accurate as a stand alone gauge such as the 2000 which is mounted separately?

I have the WS-2902A with internal indoor thermometer. I also have an ObserverIP which uses an external thermometer just like the WS-2000 display. I see no difference in internal temperature measurement data between both devices.

The good news is that the internal WS-2902A thermometer is very good and is not affected by other electronics in the WS-2902A display. The WS-2902A display does not get hot. In fact the WS-2902A display is very cold to the touch and remains room temperature always and it is very well vented in the rear. By contrast the ObserverIP gets warm to the touch, so it was a good design decision to require an external thermometer for that unit. I don't know how warm the WS-2000 display gets but I suspect that it probably gets warm also and that is why the thermometer is external.

Still a little confused. The WS-2000 comes with a separate temperature sensor that you apparently mount outside somewhere. Is this the primary temperature sensor for the unit or is it simply a secondary sensor for covering different area? Sorry if it's confusing.

In looking at both the WS-2000 and the WS-2902A it's appears that this separate, secondary sensor is the only difference.

The WS2902a display unit has built in T/H/Barometer sensors.

The WS-2000 display unit itself does not have a built in T/H/Barometer sensor.  The kit comes with an external unit that has the T/H/Barometer sensors.  This unit can be placed anywhere with in range of the display.  The display shows the T/H readings as Indoor Temperature and Indoor Humidity in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  I would guess they did this to keep any internal heat from the display from throwing off the temp reading.

If you have any additional T/H sensors (up to eight) they will also be displayed in the same spot on the screen.  You can edit the label for what is displayed for each additional sensor.  You can set which sensor is displayed, manual cycle which is display, or have it auto cycle them.

In my case I have two additional T/S sensors that I put in my refrigerators and I have labeled then "Kitchen Fridge" and "Basement Fridge".  I have the display set to auto cycle showing them on the screen.

Just answered the sensor question in your post in "Which PWS Should I Buy" section. RE the display, the WS-2000 is much nicer than the 2902 display. Worth the extra coin IMO.

No, the separate sensor that comes with the WS-2000 is placed indoor. Not for outdoor use. It gives you indoor temperature / humidity / pressure.

It is not an extra sensor. It is the primary sensor for indoor use. As others have said the WS-2902A has an internal sensor where as the WS-2000 display doesn't and that is why it requires this sensor. The WS-2902A display does not get hot and therefore did not require an external sensor. The WS-2000 display is different LCD technology, it also has a more powerful processor (does a whole lot more with data logging and more) and it gets hot.
