The USB port for that specific display is to update the firmware in the display. It is typically for quality purposes. If we were to have you send it in for a warranty claim, and something needed to be updated with the display this is how we would do it.

Looks that way. Why companies do this is beyond me. Acurite let consumers do the Smarthub update - and we all know how that went - so maybe this why. Then again, I update the fw on all my Dlink cameras myself. No bricks (yet)!
