Using Temp station probes for Soil - wiring info
« on: November 24, 2017, 02:43:25 PM »
I thought I'd post this tidbit for anyone who is going to use the Temp station stainless steel probes that use the telephone style cable vs. the 2 lead normally used for soil.

To use it on the Soil station, you will have 4 wires - Red, Black, Green, Yellow.
Combine Red and Black together, and use Green as the 2nd wire. Discard Yellow.

There's the 2 wires like the probes designed for the Soil station.
Enjoy!

Last week I study any things about temp probe Davis 6470  Multi Pourpose because its very useful and few expensive. In Europe need 80 euro plus shipping FOR BUY ORIGINAL PASSIVE Davis 6470  Multi Pourpose, ITS incredibly, its more expensive than complete temp/hum Sensitrion sensor with new SHT31.

Temp probe Davis 6470  Multi Pourpose would be a NTC 10k 0.5% precission. This passive sensor type are cheap component but not even meet precise and quality resistors with a well know developer. Many NTC 10k 1% and waterproof wired meet in eBay in 1 Euro or 1 dollar with shipping included, but testing this cheap eBay Chinese NTC look poor quality.

However can meet raw components similar to Davis 6470  Multi Pourpose without waterproof with know developer ( example. Vishay) and guaranteed specs about 5 euro or less.

Remember temp probe Davis 6470  Multi Pourpose  can use in many cases, needed more explanation but NTC 10k would operate in central pins RJ14 where temp/hum sensor PROBABLY the board detect and fit different type of sensors in same port.

This theory about Davis 6470  Multi Pourpose would be a new option if work in VUE ISS for separate temp measures from module nearing soil, also would be interest for separate console temp measure...

Discussion can be about precission and accurate Davis 6470  Multi Pourpose compare specs to SHT11 SHT13 AND SHT31 but this Sensitrion sensors thing can't be waterproof and wiring distance its short. NTC resistors can use up to 300 meters, easy and precise with 10 to 50 meters. I thing can't use third wire for better precission as MAX31856 boards in davis ports.

Well we're not talking about the Sensiron ISS sensors (or I misunderstood), just the add-on temp station stainless steel sensors. Same sensor as the soil stations just a different cable. But it is interesting to know the manufacturer of them.
