I used a 35mm (inner diameter) galvanized steel pipe with 3mm thick wall. It's attached to the structure of the roof inside the attic (115cm in length) and outdoor unit is 150cm from the roof (minimum distance recommended by Weather Underground). That thing will not move, even during storms or strong winds. I applied a coat of primer and then two coats of white paint just to be sure it will not rust.
