I own both (Cape Cod and Maximum) and both are impeccable anemometers. I can't say the same for either one of their wind vanes. The Maximum vane is a half vane with no pointer and thus, induces quite a lot of flutter on the dial. The Cape Cod (Downeaster) is a crude thing, consisting of a metal "flag" like contraption...
Downeaster still has a regular vane, same size as the Davis, not the small tails of Cape Cod and Maximum. Cape Cod bought Downeaster in 2010, but they've kept the Downeaster division, sensors, and dials exactly the same as when it was its own company.
