Atlas Pole Size
« on: December 15, 2018, 02:46:02 PM »
Ok, I am starting to think I am the poorest searcher of all time.  I thought a while back I found some posts on what size of pole and dimensions to hook up my new atlas to it.  Now that I actually have one I can't find the information.  What diameter of pole would fit into the atlas and the bottom plastic mount?  A metal pole I presume is the best?  I basically will be putting it on the side of a fence I have running off of my deck.

I have my Atlas on a 10 foot 3/4 inch galvanized conduit pipe with an additional two feet segment for a little more height for the anemometer secured to a 4x4 in my yard. You can go with a different sized pipe than me, since there is the adjustment knob.

Yes, this is a 3/4" diameter galvanized conduit pipe I have the Atlas on here. I chose galvanized conduit because if it wasn't, it would rust and look really bad down the road. It's constantly in the elements, so i felt it was the best choice. This is the same pipe I had my old 5-in-1 on.

Yeah that's one disappointment.  The pole size required is really small.  Eliminates a lot of more sturdy options like galvanized fence posts, TV towers, etc.

You can go with a bigger diameter, but I am not sure how much bigger. The adjustable knob allows for a bigger pole if you want.

I have read that 1 1/4” outside diameter is maximum size.

There is a tiny bit of room on my 1 1/4" conduit, doubt you could go up a size.

1 1/4" OUTSIDE diameter is the maximum supported.

Make clear note that is OUTSIDE diameter.

If I remember correctly, pipe is sized by inside diameter, conduit by outside diameter, so be careful how you ask the hardware store employee.
