need help from the guys that tech savy

ok let me explain what i want to do if possible, i know there are guys here with some freakish knowledge and mad computer skills. so i won a gopro hero 5 black this summer on vacation, i want to be able to use the time lapse mode and also view over a pc screen live  and save to a external hard drive.  anyone use one of these and know how to do it. are even if possible, i have seen weather chasers use them but not sure how its done, thanks

Sorry, thats what i found at the time, i dont use gopro, you could just search google, tis what i did :)

It's been a few years since I've done it.

The link bashy provided is correct, at least in the general concept, but if you're not familiar with VLC it might look cryptic.

You should probably check out youtube for tutorials on how to stream video from your GoPro using VLC.  I just checked and there seem to be many out there.  (I searched youtube with "VLC stream gopro").

Greetings,

What everybody is describing is a method of doing what GoPro's basically do not want you to do... 
You are trying to grab the cache of of the live feed before GoPro kills it off.
Apples and PC's place the data in slightly different areas but the concept is the same.
The reason it is so convoluted is for some reason GoPro does not want their cameras used in stationary live mode.
Maybe some of their later camera's allow this but at least mine and older ones do not so we had to come up with these crazy workarounds...
