Title: Making time laspe recordings!
Post by: andrewjwhall on July 03, 2014, 03:15:07 PM
Hi to the Forum,

I just want to throw a question out there so I hope this is the correct board for it!
I am interested in making time lapse recordings of the weather. I have been looking at the various action cams that are out there for many reasons!
The top three which have my attention are the GoPro Hero 3+ Black, Sony Action Cam 2 (HDR-AS100V), Garmin VIRB Elite. The Sony picture quality is best (to my eye) but has 170 degree lens (can do 120 I believe) which can not be change that easily! I thought an action cam would be better in case it got wet and for out and about
Am I looking in the right area or does anyone else have any ideas / suggestion?

Would be most grateful for any advice.

Most Kindest Regards,

Andrew.

Lossatal, Germany.

The GoPro is pretty awesome.  Its internal intervalometer gives you the timed images you need.  You can manually assemble them with freeware called "Photolapse" or WeatherDisplay will do it for you.

Hi,

The GoPro is a good contender but the Sony seems to have better image quality. Have watch some side by side tests on YouTube. I must admit I would prefer the GoPro as it has way more accessories and you can use filters to!

I just wonder if any one here has used both and what their thoughts are. I may need to write to Sony and GoPro and see if I can get some evaluation units to try out!!

Best Regards,

Andrew.
