Oakland, NJ - VP2
« on: July 19, 2010, 07:59:23 PM »
The following are pics of my Davis VP2 that was installed back in November of 2008 at my home in Oakland, NJ. The station was installed just as the house was built - I also had a Davis VP2 at my previous house from December 2005 until moving.

Here's the ISS in a pic taken yesterday. It's about 7' AGL in a nice-sized area of grass that gets good sunlight, so I'm lucky in that regard.

Here's the anemometer, also in a pic taken yesterday. It's about 39' AGL and about 6' above the roof, so it clears the closest trees in most directions. The yard, luckily, is large enough to add to its exposure. You can also see the anemometer transmitter kit near the window on the right side of the picture.

Here are a couple links to closer up photos of the components (taken 11/23/08):

Although I'm located in a narrow valley, I've gotten wind gusts up to 40 mph twice now in the less than two years since moving here. Also, I've measured temperatures between -3 and 101 (just this past 7/6).

Looking good!!! Is that the fan-ventilated sensor or the basic? Any overheating?

Thanks a lot, all, for the replies. Not sure why I hadn't seen the thread again 'til now.

It's the 24-hr FARS, and works great. I think with the full grass exposure like that it would present an overheating problem without the FARS as you suggest. Measured temps of up to 100.7 (local ASOS was 102) this summer during a historic heat wave and the accuracy compared to nearby official stations was great.
