WHAT WX STATION WORKS WITH APPLE MAC?
« on: April 14, 2010, 01:11:13 AM »
Greetings:

I am considering purchasing a WX station... probably in the upper tier of the consumer grade product line. I have been reading quite a bit trying to determine if this Tier of Station will work with my Computers. I have read many claims both good and bad and a sizable number of reviews has produced some interesting results. Failure in the interfacing seems to be the rule rather than the exception. It appears that applications as well as problems with the OS plague a good number of those who posted these reviews. The reasons are not clear but being an Engineer... I enjoy studying first and I'm not prejudice, I give equal time to both sides but if the product doesn't stack up to the standards that prevail then it gets the thumbs down.  I have mostly Apple Mac Computers to support my applications, so compatibility with a Mac OS is a must. Are there any of you folks out there in Weather-Land running a Mac as a database interfaced to a WX Station? If so, please pass along your opinion and the supporting information. TNX...

Hi.... I'm a PC......but I agree....Davis VPro2 or Vue and the appropriate MAC software will suit you just fine.

Please post your decision and how it worked out. I am new to the Mac world after years of being a PC based user. After the last hack and virus issue I said enough and have an iMac and MacBook pro.  Like you I am looking at the same sorts of weather stations, confused as all get out but still reading. I will end up with two. One at home and one at my farm. The farm location will need to have some memory as I cannot be there more than once a week in many cases.

Good luck in your quest.

I have the latest mac & run a Davis Vantage Pro 2 using
Lightsoft Weather Centre Software. http://www.lightsoft.co.uk/LWC/

It's absolutely brilliant & I can't recommend it enough.

Davis VPro2 should fit for you. Perhaps with other drivers than for pc. But the drivers can be downloaded at the davis site.
