New Block – Wind Rose

Hi guys,

name of this new block is pretty much self-explanatory, more info about it:
http://meteotemplate.com/blog/?p=2615

DEMO: http://www.meteotemplate.com/template/indexBlockDemoNarrow.php?block=windRose

Enjoy

Hi!

Not working! :( The block window is empty. What is wrong?

Hi,

it is because you ignored the very important message in the wiki and also in bold at the top of the Blocks and Plugins page:

Quote
IMPORTANT: Please remember that if you are not using the latest template version, you should not add/update any blocks or plugins because there are likely to be compatibility problems.

More info: http://meteotemplate.com/blog/?p=2088

You are 4 versions behind, either you have to update your template or you must leave it as it is. It will work fine, but no more updates or new things. Make sure you read the instructions, you would save time to yourself too ;)

New Block – United States – Normals

Hi guys,

this new block allows you to display climate normals for your location. First choose from thousands of available stations around the United States (list included and there is also a script which will automatically calculate the closest locations – see the block setup page), then depending on data availability (some stations do not measure all parameters), you will see 1981-2010 averages for max/min/avg temperature, precipitation, wet days, snowfall, snow depth and degree days for “today” (this day of the year), “this month” and annual.

DEMO: http://www.meteotemplate.com/template/indexBlockDemoWide.php?block=normalsUS

Enjoy

Thats fine Brett, but if you dont update the template you must leave your page as it is, no new blocks or plugin updates

Boston The T      London Tube

I used to be an active participant in an international car forum, and it was funny that everyone assumed I was local to them because I would always reply in the local measurement units and lingo of the original poster.  For example, I would have written something like this in response to a post from the UK:

Remove the jubilee clip (that's hose clamp for those on the other side of the pond) from the heater core.

As they say, two countries...divided by a common language.....

I tried this with all 10 closest sites and not one of them returned any data.  All I see on my page is the block headers?

Just tried the first one you posted:

http://www.meteotemplate.com/template/indexBlockDemoWide.php?block=normalsUS

Which means it must be an issue in the communication between your server and NCDC

Any idea how to test it.  This works fine from my home machine.  I just don't know how to test it from my server?

You don't need to test, the proof is the empty cache files, it is trying to load it but the result is empty

just upgraded block meteogram from version 1.3 to 3 and it stopped working, is the new version setup differently, made sure the setting file wasn't over written, reverted back to version 1.3 and its back working again

I was under the impression that soil and leaf go hand in hand, sommat to do with disease and gdd etc,

For me the old version is great, I only have 1 soil moisture sensor and 1 leaf sensor
Therfore a separate block just for that seems overkill
And does not look right with just that sensor. If you have a whole array of soil temp and moisture, then I spose this new soil block will be ok. But for me, deffo not,

Am I right in thinking that cause i will stay with the older block, it will mean I cannot update the template anymore? If that's the case can you not make it backward compatible?
Kind regards
Bashy

Hi Bashy,
no this is not really correct. It is the other way around - you cannot update blocks/plugins unless you update the template to the latest version, not that you cannot update the template unless you update blocks. Technically it can happen that updating the template will make a particular outdated block stop working, yes it is possible, but it is less likely than the other way around.
My answer is therefore
"not necessarily, but could happen in the future, I cannot tell right now what changes will be made in the future and I will always make sure it works with the latest versions of the blocks/plugins, but what happens with the older ones really depends on a particular block/plugin and what exactly it is doing".

But as I said, I cannot guarantee, it should work for now, but it can stop working in the future, just like any other block/plugin. It is not a general rule that unless you have latest versions things will not work, but it is a possibility.

Hi guys, can someone here (not Jachym since he needs a little break from being on his computer all the time) give me a word of suggestion?

I recently did a fresh install of 14.2 from (oh my, it was that long ago) 10 Meteotemplate.

It went smoothly and boy the improvements continue to roll along.

But I have the blocks working well, installed all my favorite plug ins and ... nothing.  I went through the sections in the Wiki a couple of times and must be just skipping over something.  It is my understanding from the Wiki that all one needs to do is to load each PlugIn into it's own folder under the Plugins folder, go to Admin and Setup Plugins to set parameters that are needed, and away you go.  I've looked at my webpage from several browsers and several computers and there just isn't the plugins showing up in the default menu places that I hadd with 10.0.

Is there a 'switch' to turn on using plugins that I missed somewhere?

Any comments or thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks, Dale

Hi Dale,
you did indeed do everything correctly, but you now need to add the new plugin to the menu.

Originally this was done automatically, but it was a problem because it required me choosing which tab and where the link will go. It saved you work, but many people complained because they felt it belongs in a different tab, etc etc. You therefore now have a full control of how the menu looks like.

See:
http://www.meteotemplate.com/web/wiki/wiki7GB.php#menuSection

I agree it is now a bit more work, but in the end the result is more the way YOU like it, not the way I think it should be :-)

P.S. Dont worry about me answering :-) Im at work anyway and I can stay here as long as I want and when I get finished what I have to do here. It is very nice weather here today, sunny, I was jogging when going here so Im not sitting in front of a PC all the time :-)
