The record low high temp for yesterday was 34F.  It got up to 34.4F here.

The wind was really blowing yesterday, too.  BRRRR!

BUT, this weekend should be back close to 70F.   =D>

“The National Weather Service said Tuesday night that some areas of the Buffalo suburbs were approaching 76 inches of snow since Monday — that's the record for snowfall over a 24-hour period anywhere in the U.S. ever,” NBC News reports.

In just the first of many expected snowfalls this winter, “South Buffalo has seen almost as much snow in 24 hours as it experiences in an entire season,” CNN reports. “About 84 inches is normal, but about six feet -- 72 inches -- has fallen since Tuesday. … More snow is expected Wednesday and Thursday, which could set a record high.”

Amazing photo...
Wow!
At what point do you need to worry about snow load on the roof of the house? (or car for that matter, nice "roof rack")

It will be interesting to see what happens this Saturday-Monday for them between the uptick in daily high temperatures and the rain in the forecast.

And just to add another photo of Buffalo I found this one to be pretty cool looking.

I like snow, but You guys can keep that quantity by you.
We have a 500 foot driveway and I'm the one who gets to plow it. Luckily for me we have a tractor with a Front-End loader, but still, that amount of snow on the driveway would take me at least all day or 2 days to clear.

There's a video of this out there somewhere too where you can see the motion.

In this image, the motion is from screen right to left.  It shows the band of snow being picked up off the lake and dumped over land.  The stark contrast between heavy snowfall and relatively little is clear.

I thought that was an amazing video.  The time-lapse radar mirrors that, too.  6 miles north they got 3" of snow (according to the news).

This makes me think of winter safety. If living in an area like this or anywhere for that matter be prepared for conditions that could strand you for days. Be prepared with lanterns, candles, flashlights, prescription medicines, generator if possible and always keep food & water supply on hand should you get stranded for several days.

This is more of a fridge/freezer variant but same idea!

Batteries, too!  And if you can get rechargeable batteries and a solar charger you're good to go.

We have one of those hand-crank emergency radio/flashlight things.  It's kind of neat.  But I get tired of cranking after a while.  But it's handy.

And don't forget beer!

Here two links to time lapse video's of the lake effect snow storm that hit south Buffalo and the “ south towns” I live about 15 miles to the north and all we have is a dusting of snow.  Got stuck in one of these in 2001 and was stranded for 27 hrs before I could get off the I-190.

Froggy morning.

Fog in the air, but frost on the grass and trees.

Temps shooting for the 50s and maybe 60s for early next week.

If you believe the local TV station, they say only 1-2 inches, but if you go out side, it is 5 inches on the ground right now.  It is still snowing.  Of course the "official" weather report is what is out at the Des Moines International Airport. Trust me, there are no international flights out of there. It is called "international" that you can fly to a city that has international flights. Anyway, the official NOAA office is out in JOhnston, across from the army base, Camp Dodge.

Trust me there is snow out there, and I am attaching the current image from my snow stick. This year, Louie has not peed on it.  The wind is supposed to pick up tonight and blow some of this around, then 52 of Friday, it melts and then drops 20 degrees . Oh joy living in Iowa. It isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from here.
