New and Improved website and Station!
« on: August 25, 2014, 01:54:18 PM »
I have finally completed my upgrade from my old Oregon Scientific WMR100N to my new wireless Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station! I have also set up the Weatherlink software to send live data to my website and wunderground using their rapid fire updating. I have also made some changes to my website as of recently as well, aiming at improving usability and ease of viewing.

I am just glad to be able to share and upload my live weather data again after my previous weather station finally bit the dust.

Thanks to everyone who answered any previous questions I've had.

Hope everyone enjoys the site!

- Matt

Thanks John! I owe everything to everyone on this forum that has helped me with the questions that I have had about setting up the station and website. None of my questions have gone unanswered, and I am very appreciative of all the help I have received! To be able to share my live data on my website, on wunderground, and with the NWS through CWOP (and precipitation reports to CoCoRAHS) is just icing on the cake!

I now have the station mounted on the edge of the pond about 250 feet behind the house where wind readings should be much more accurate. I'm anxious to see how the temp readings respond as the ISS was in the shade before, but is now in the direct sun for about 7 hours from about 11:30AM to 6:30PM.

It has been mounted there all day today, and my wind readings seem to be much more accurate (already have a peak gust of 12 MPH in what I considered very light winds today, as compared to the highest gust I got of 7MPH when it was mounted in its first location for the past 2 weeks). I'm actually impressed as to how well temp readings have been when comparing to my OS which is mounted in complete shade, and to other stations around my area. If I would have put my Oregon Scientific Thermo sensor in the sun like my Davis is right now, my temp readings would have been WAY TOO HIGH! (Trust me I tried it before!) ;)

Now just to wait for a windy day (Maybe tomorrow (8/28) with winds forecast to be 10-20MPH w/gusts to 30MPH from the NW!  :-)

Just noticed that same message earlier when I tried to get on the site. Don't know why that's happening. Working on the issue right now. Provider said it may take till the end of the month (3 more days) for everything to reset, but it shouldn't be a Bandwidth issue, just an issue the provider apparently had a few days ago that threw everything off.

Thanks for the heads up erikmm! Sorry for the inconvenience! Hope to be back up and running ASAP! Until then you can still view my live weather data feed at...

Everything is back up and running correctly now.  :-) It was an issue with the service provider. Sorry for the downtime!

Hi Matt,

I got a bad message too while trying to visit your site.
Usually most of the providers can actually offer unlimited bandwidth.
I'm not sure if your provider is appropriate for a weather site.
I hope to be able to visit your site very soon.

Best regards,
Marcel

Thanks for the heads up Marcel! I noticed the issue appeared again this morning. I contacted my provider right away once again, but sadly this time they have not yet responded. Yesterday when this issue appeared they responded and fixed it right away, but apparently they didn't fix it right! The issue arose again early this morning. I was pretty disappointed when I saw it down again!

Sorry for the inconvenience. It looks as though if it is a bandwidth issue (which I don't think it is even though that's what it says it is), all my data usage is reset on the 3rd of each month, so my site will be completely operational once again by next Wednesday 9/3. I hope they resolve the issue sooner though. It is apparently nothing I can fix on my end!

Yupp, definitely having issues with my provider for my original website. ](*,)
I have been trying to contact them so that they can fix the issue, but they have yet to respond back! This website under issue is
http://bearpondareaweather.webs.com./
It says I have used up all my bandwidth for the month, which is not true, so there is an error on the providers end that I cannot fix, so I will have to wait until the 3rd of the month for all data to reset, and by then the site should be completely back up and functional again.

Until then I have created a backup webpage, for when any issues like this ever arise again. You can find that page here...
http://bilodeaumatthew.wix.com/westernmaineweather
It was just a quick free site I threw together again to act as a back up with the most important and pertinent weather info on it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that my other site has, but again this is just a back up site, and the other one should be back up and running soon! I hope!

Everything seems to be back up and running now on my website! Hopefully for good this time! It was a hoster issue that I had no control over, and for some reason it was making it look like my page had used up all its available bandwidth for the month. Everything has been reset, and seems to be working great now! Hopefully it lasts longer than 15 hours unlike the last fix.  ;)

Thanks for all the patience and sorry for the downtime. Again thanks for the compliments on the site!

Hi Matt,
I'm afraid your main site is down at the moment ! Your webhoster does not seem to be very professional  :-(
And your second site show some ads for wix on your page. Not beautiful.
I should probably try another free webhoster, with unlimited bandwith and witout ads. Ask Google.

Sadly, thanks for the heads up Marcel! Apparently they aren't very professional at all!  ](*,) I haven't had any issue for the past two years until now though which really stinks. Its really disappointing to have put so much work into a site just to have it not work because of some issue that the provider is having, and there is nothing I can do about it. I get my hopes up because it will all of a sudden work for a while, but now I can't hope for too much because it keeps crashing! I have contacted my provider and they apologized for all the issues, but at this point all I want is for the issue to be fixed for good! We are heading into the active weather season here in Maine and I really would like everything to be up and running properly!

As for my backup site, it is just that, a backup site. I am in this just as a hobby, so I did not want to pay anything for a second site (yet!), so I just used on of wix.com free templates to design my webpage. It was the first hoster I found that would somewhat fit my needs. I know it doesn't look good and I don't like it either, but in order to get those removed I would have to pay for a premium site, and like I said I don't want to have to do that for a backup site. I also upload my data to weather underground and CWOP, and have no issues sending data to them. I guess that's whats somewhat more important, but I'm still hopeful that my main site provider gets things figured out soon!
My data on wunderground is under the call name KMETURNE6   (For North Turner, Maine) Also titled Western Maine Weather. http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMETURNE6

I AGAIN apologize for the inconvenience. I really wish I could do something about it (other than changing providers).
