That sound like a boot device order prob.  Check the BIOS
You know... I've had to check that on every computer at my site (~350)... except my desktop. I guess the reason I haven't bothered (or even thought about it) is I rarely reboot that one, it just runs 24/7. I guess I'll check my final one after the holidays! I'm off 'till January 3!!!

Tried it on my laptop with the same result. Had to pull the battery to shutdown. It may be that the data logger has a type of eeprom onboard.

Been running USB for over 2 years without a hiccup.

They do work.

SERIAL with an Iogear serial to USB converter also works - 3 years with no hiccups. "Knock on wood"

Wish this thread was around when I got mine. I got the USB ver and it immediately locked up my comp. (XP) Apparently, once you make your comm selection, the data logger has a unique code written to it that is impossible to change if your comp locks up upon boot. Davis is sending me a new one, but in the meantime, I wait.
Tom

Same thing happened to me when I tried to set up my 'new toy' immediately after Christmas. I tried johnd's fix of installing on my laptop and then running the serial switcher utility. Hey presto, everything worked like magic on my PC after that and has continued to do so. Thanks, mate!!!
