Dear professional weatherman,
« on: July 29, 2017, 06:15:52 PM »
Your boss just walked in and informed you that he wants a VERY reliable and VERY accurate automated weather station in a country where the electrical service is 220 but not as reliable as the states. The data can be read on an output device but can be read from the internet as well.  What would you buy and why?

Just so you know, it's all hobbyists here.  No Pro Mets.

How big is your Boss's wallet and what is he/she willing to spend?

That's a pretty wide area.  You can go from a couple of hundred dollars (US) to a few thousand.

There are solar power options as well.

What kind of internet connection?  IP or cellular?

RMY without question, but be ready to break out the wallet as five figure US dollars can be achieved if so desired, but they're pretty much cream of the crop. As far as Rainwise, I'd choose a Davis VP2 first, these two are the next in the pecking order line, both could be had maxed out below 2 grand (US dollars) easily.

A Davis VP2 setup is going to give you the best results but will set you back over $500 after you include internet connectivity. If that's too expensive try the Davis Vantage Vue. The anemometer is not separate from the other sensors with the Vantage Vue so you won't be able to place each sensor at the optimal heights for the best accuracy, but the Vantage Vue is more affordable.

It would also be nice to get a better idea of where this installation would be located. Is it a desert, arctic, ocean, mountain or some other type of location? Those factors would help to narrow down the choices. If you will be dependent on solar for main or backup power, then locations such as the arctic and antarctic could be problematic due to low sun angles. You did mention a 220 power source that is not as reliable as US power thus, one of the reasons for needing to know the location.

The more info you give the better our answers will be...
