Cal Fire is responding to a vegetation fire near Santa Margarita on Monday afternoon.

The fire was first reported about 2:45 p.m. Monday in the area of 3055 W. Pozo Road, according to Cal Fire. As of 2:50 p.m., the fire had burned 25 acres.

The fire is currently burning grass and woodland areas, according to Cal Fire spokesman Chris Elms. He said there is no structure threat that he is aware of.

The agency issued a Red Flag Warning for San Luis Obispo County on Sunday to be in effect through Tuesday, due to high fire danger.

According to scanner traffic, potentially 1,000 acres of land could burn. The fire was burning at a “violent rate of spread,” according to scanner traffic.

This fire comes as firefighters battle multiple fires in both Northern and Southern California.

CalFire and USFS got a handle on that one quickly, and held it to about 100 acres. Still took a few days for full containment.

I think all of the fire departments around here are down to minimal staffing, having sent everything possible to the fires up north. I had one cousin evacuated due to H. Harvey, and another one evacuated this week in the Norcal fires. They are in Yountville, their home safe for now, no power, no cell phones, so we get an update once a day when they can find WiFi.

In today's LA Times, Robin Abcarian's column is about an older couple who rode out the fire in their neighbor's pool as everything burned around them.

She had tucked her phone into her shoe at the pool’s edge. When she saw it next, it had melted.

Around here, RH approaching the teens, highs in the mid 80s, off shore wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. 30 tonight. My SLOweather CBI is "Very High" right now, will probably hit Extreme later.

We are impacted by the smoke from up north. Orange sunrises and sunsets, a little ash fall, and that subtle tang in the air. This kind of smoke is way more irritating than fireplace or BBQ smoke. Not only is is full of all the man made stuff that burned, but poison oak aerosols as well.

PG&E creates their own fire index warnings for their service area. FWIW, we are about at Division 508, Extreme Fire danger, but not Red Flag (yet).
