Two New Interactive Modules
« on: July 09, 2009, 07:46:55 PM »
Here's a cut and paste from my e-mail today (sorry so large):

"Greetings,

The COMET Program is pleased to announce the publication of two new modules in the Dynamic Feature Identification: Satellite Palette Series: Ring of Fire and Blocking Patterns.

Satellite Feature Identification: Ring of Fire is a 20 minute module that steps through the definition, synoptic setup, associated threats, and dissipation of 'Ring of Fire' convective events.  The module introduces forecasters to the potentially damaging convection that can develop in conjunction with blocking high pressure centers and examines how to identify it from a water vapor imagery perspective.  This is followed by a set of exercises to test your knowledge of the subject matter presented.

To begin the Ring of Fire module, go here: http://www.meted.ucar.edu/norlat/sat_features/ringoffire/

Satellite Feature Identification: Blocking Patterns is a 35 minute module that examines how water vapor imagery can be used to help diagnose blocking patterns and their dissipation.  Four major blocking patterns are covered in this module: Blocking highs, Cut-off lows, Rex blocks and Omega blocks.  Exercises are presented throughout the module to enhance learner understanding.

To begin the Blocking Patterns module, go here: http://www.meted.ucar.edu/norlat/sat_features/blocking_patterns/

These HTML-based modules use examples and multiple types of interactions to help the user understand these topics and their relevance to forecasting.

These modules require a web browser with Flash Player version 8 (or higher). For technical support, please visit the MetEd Support page: http://www.meted.ucar.edu/about_support.htm#C

NOTE TO NWS and other NOAA EMPLOYEES: These modules are available in the NWS Learning Center (https://doc.learn.com/noaa/nws). Please access them in that system in order to get credit.

We welcome any comments or questions you may have regarding the content, instructional approach, or use of this module. Please e-mail your comments or questions to Bryan Guarente (guarente@comet.ucar.edu) or Greg Byrd (byrd@comet.ucar.edu).

Sincerely,

Joseph P. Lamos, Ph.D.

I myself love this stuff!  8-)
I'm certain many of you will find these modules very interesting too.
