Possible Severe Outbreak Part 2 Today
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:48:09 AM »
The SPC has issued a slight risk from the Gulf Coast all the way up to the upper part of Michigan and a moderate risk for southeastern Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and northeastern Iowa.

That moderate area has 15% tornado, 45% wind, and 30% hail..Still some pretty high numbers.

There are unfortunately some fairly sizable towns in that hatched area.

Supposed to reach the Chicago area this evening. Hoping it's not too bad. We got storms overnight last night that left us with nearly 2 inches of rain in some areas.

yep, moderate chance of storms here. Hope people are ready.

Some are building from Eau clare to Wilmar to Sioux Falls, moving north.

It is humid, but not overly humid  dp of 57 and rising

If the clouds break up, and the sun pops out, then we are in trouble.

then in the 40's tomorrow-and our first track meet

Pretty sure they base the upgrade date on when they think severe weather will be less likely.  Typically, this kind of weather pattern doesn't appear this early that far north into Wisconsin.  Probably the same reason why the KINX (Tulsa/Inola) dual pol upgrade isn't scheduled until September.

Our local NWS office got the upgrade last year I believe. I'm pretty sure it took at least several days, possibly even a week.

It took NWS ST. Louis about two weeks.  I don't think there are any free public feeds at this point.  Dual Pol is pretty neat though.  Hopefully there is something free in the near future, or something I don't know about yet.  lol

BTW we are under a tornado watch now.  I under stand it but I'm not sure I'd have pulled the trigger on it.  We did just get a nice downpour with the main line an hour or so away still but nothing is impressive at all.

KESX took about about 11 days to complete.

Also, here's a page that might interest you.  It contains Dual-Pol training modules for meteorologists and non-meteorologists.

We are under a Tornado watch in MPLS.

I liked the people on tv. Talked about the storms being too close together to let the cold air in.

It has been cloudy here most of the day.  That may have saved us.

We will get something-hopefully we can say-it could have been worse.

I've been wanting to call bust on the moderate risk up your way all day but I keep thinking it's early still.  However as we approach seven it's not.  The clouds up there definitely kept things from going nuts.

yuck snow.  With the week I've had, I'd probably kill myself if it snowed here tomorrow.
