Title: Installing WL without a CD drive
Post by: youngros on March 05, 2018, 10:01:07 AM
A friend has just ordered a Davis Vue and I have explained that if he wants to connect to his laptop he will need the datalogger which comes with what Davis describes as free software, but this is on a CD and his laptop doesn't have a CD drive. Will he have to buy/use a USB CD drive or is there any other way? It does seem strange that there is no online download of the software like there is of Weather Display.
Thanks Rosalind

Use somebody's computer with CD and "transfer" everything onto a USB thumbdrive...and then use the thumbdrive on his machine.

Thank you for the quick response. I had wondered if you could, but thought I would check first.
This all comes from me suggesting he got a rain gauge to compare our rainfall, next he is deciding to buy a Davis!
His other question/observation was why a wired logger and not wireless/Bluetooth.

Davis has not entered that idea yet. Maybe someday.
Remember Wired logger is either a USB or Serial.

I would have the friend see if a friend/neighbor has a USB DVD. I bought one for 15 bucks.

Yes, he knows that he has to have usb. Mine was serial until Windows10 killed the drivers with one of their updates, fortunately I had an adaptor and I was good to go again.
I will do the copying for him as still have tower PCs.

But here it is:  https://www.davisnet.com/support/weather/download/WeatherLink_Install_604.exe

Please note this is NOT the full version and it does require the have a previously installed FULL version for it to operate correctly.

Thanks, I hadn't spotted that WL has been updated to v6.0.4 (nor has there been any announcement from Davis). Changes are minor as you might expect but include:

What's new in v6.0.4

Updated the heat index calculation table
Changed ET Display in Summary Window.
Added Device ID (DID) as authorization when setting up Web Download.
